COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - September 2007.

Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history. This month’s story :- Samuel Johnson, born September 18th 1709 in Lichfield, Staffordshire, became, after a poor start, a literary titan and great talker. On the subject of a friend’s exercise regime he once said “I never heard that he used any, he might for all I know walk to the ale house but I believe he was always carried home.” One of Johnson’s friends and patrons was Henry Thrale, a wealthy London brewer and this beer brewed with Fuggles and Goldings celebrates their friendship.

Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms. Gold/copper with thin bubbly off white head. Some yeast on aroma, some malty fruit in mouth, fruit salad, but a little watery in the mouth. Dullish bitter.

Cask (Wenlock Arms, London): Lazy aroma of bittering hops with a barnyardy touch, golden with a small fluffy white head; robust dry-bitter flavour, light to medium-bodied, low carbonation; average dry bitter and slightly fruity-yeasty finish. Nothing really unpleasant detectable, but really not great...........
