Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Jan 20, 2005 Bottle. Cloudy brown colour. Large, long lasting beige head. Sweet, toffee, dough, vanilla, orange, grapefruit-bitter finish. Medium-high carbonation - let it settle! Hbie (133), Essex, England Dec 6, 2004 Bottle. Dark amber with big off whiter head. Sour aroma. Big full body with sour aftertaste. Quite unusual and not what I was expecting. Pretty good but I did not like the aftertaste. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Oct 10, 2004 Amber coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Medium to Heavy-bodied; Super strong malt flavour with caramel showing through. Aftertaste contains a very strong finish that lasts long in the palate. I sampled this beer from Jeremy at Smokeless Joe’s after our May RB Party on 15-May-2004 in Toronto, Ontario. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Sep 29, 2004 Big head upon pouring with a very lively body. The alcohol comes accross very clearly.Quite complex and certainly different for a British produced ale. obisbeer (558), Barcelona, Spain Aug 30, 2004 Reddish brown foaming out of the bottle upon opening. Sour dry fruit, raisen, and candy like banana nose. Foamy w/large sparkle, dry prune, currant, cherry and noticeable alcohol on the finish. Ungstrup (14757), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 12, 2004 Updated: Jan 10, 2005[At Fete de la Biere 2004, Lausanne] A dark amber beer with a fine lasting beige head. The aroma is faint of oranges. The flavor is very powerful, but rather simple for an Abbey Dubbel; it is very spicy of which some are hops and coriander, which gives it a dry end. The flavor also contains notes of citrus. Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Aug 2, 2004 Bottled. Mahogany colour, deep and clear. Strong orange peel aroma lifts off with the ethanol. Flavour was mainly dominated by an orange peel (or zest) twang, which sat atop a malty base. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England Jul 26, 2004 Updated: Sep 13, 2004Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Birmingham. Pineapple aroma, perhaps some fruit salad flavour Chewits too - yummy! Ruby brown colour, with a massive fluffy head. Surprisingly light and fragrant, dewey in the mouth. Some strength in the finish. A unity of flavour - rose/grape with heavy malt and cognac tang. Quietly menacing, tasty and satisfying. Well worth checking out again.
