UPDATED: AUG 26, 2008 Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo)
Black, small irregular head. Appley aroma, sweet malts too. Estery taste, but quite watery body. Coffee hints are pleasant, but it’s not really a stout. Closer to a porter.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2012 (cask @ Unpnor Castle ) A nice ’ dry stout ’ , a compact delivery of mild roasted flavour . Im not the worlds biggest fan of low boozed stout , i drink this and want the alcohol turned up more robustly . Dry coffee notes , some dark tangy fruit(i got currants) and some bitter chocolate-round up a reasonable stout.

Cask at cloisters. Dark brown, red highlights, creamy off-white head. Mild dark chocolate, coffee, slightly tangy fruit. Savoury palate, ashy, dark chocolate, herbal spiced finish. Not bad at all.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Benjii (2396) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 4, 2011
On cask at Cloisters. Pours a dark brown colour with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Similar flavours with roasty malt upfront and a nice dry, chocolatey finish. Moderate carbonation and tasty.

First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 1991. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a creamy beige head. Strong burnt toast aroma of dusty black malt. Oily texture to the mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a strong flavour of liquorice, black treacle, chicory and roast grain. Dry dusty hop resins gives a resiny aftertaste which adds to the moisture sucking flavours. Finish is exceedingly dry with tobacco smoke and oak wood. A strong robust stout but far too dry for my liking.

3rd February 2011 Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. Loads of beers shared with ChrisO and Harrisoni - Cheers! Opaque dark brown beer. Light dry palate. Rich toasted malt, a little tangy. Finish is over dry. Once again a bit ’meh’ from BB.

Cask (gravity dispense). Beer #21 at Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival on 3 February 2011. Surprised I’d not rated this before. Very dark colour. A decent dry stout with plenty of burnt malt and chocolate notes plus a firm bitterness. Quite full mouthfeel. Very enjoyable.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 oh6gdx (16047) - Vasa, FINLAND - MAY 15, 2010
Cask. Close to black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, mild liquorice, some dark dry fruits as well as mild ashyness. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, some ashes as well as dark dy fruits. Gets some slight vanillaish notes in the finish. Very pleasant.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bacchanalia (145) - milton, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - MAY 1, 2010
Really deep intense nose of burnt black malts & coffee, looks the part, very black & viscous. Nice full weighty palate, burnt caramel, coffee, dark choc, lots of dark malt & some fruit. Nice bitter hops on finish with that malty coffee flavour hanging on in there. Good stout, but it did take 3 days of the barrel being open to get rid of a green flavour running through & spoiling it.

Cask, Ship and Mitre, Liverpool. Dark reddy brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma fairly standard malts with some roasted coffee notes. Flavour was slightly sweet, with some chocolate notes and a slight bitterness. Drinkable if underwhelming. Point off for celebrating kiddie mauling dogs too.
