COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - August 2007.

In August 1948, Australia’s Donald George Bradman, the greatest batsman of all time, ended a unique cricket career when he walked out to bat at the Oval, to a standing ovation from the crowd and three cheers from the England side. Facing his second ball from legspinner Eric Hollies he misjudged it and was bowled between bat and pad for no score. He returned to the pavilion with tears of emotion in his eyes as the crowd gave him another massive standing ovation. Australia won the series and the “invincibles” retained the Ashes.

Colour: Red / Amber
Taste: Hoppy bitterness

downender (4387) - Bristol, - SEP 11, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 11/9/07. One of the Burton Bridge Gold Medal Ales, brewed in honour of Don Bradman. A reddish-copper colour with a slight off-white head. The aroma was of earthy hops and orange fruit. The flavour was sweet with a touch of marmalade and some bitterness in the finish. Good.

Tiny, but enduring white cover tops the hazy amber body. Frankly not so aromatic for a CAMRA prize winner. Barely some leafy hops and soft toasted malts. Not too sharp in mouth neither despite a bubbly freshness. Exotic fruits are quickly taken aback by the salty bitterness. Light-medium body, medium carbonation.

Svesse (4389) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - SEP 12, 2007
(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 11 Aug 2007) Dark amber colour with brief off-white head. Slightly malty nose with balanced notes of fruit (apricots and mandarin). Fruity taste with apricots, orange and a slightly malty background. Balanced bitterness in a slightly citrussy finish. Balanced (on the verge of modest), but tasty and nice.
