COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - March 2008. Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history. This month’s story:- Hippocrates recommended chewing willow bark to relieve pain and much later a French chemist produced the essential pain killing compound from the bark but then lost interest. Thirty years later Felix Hoffman a German chemist, looking for a cure to ease his father’s rheumatism produced a purer compound that the Bayer Co. trade marked as Aspirin on March 6th 1899. It was an immediate success and Felix eased the pain of many whilst sensibly avoiding some of life’s headaches by being a confirmed bachelor.
