COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - March 2008.

Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history. This month’s story:-
Hippocrates recommended chewing willow bark to relieve pain and much later a French chemist produced the essential pain killing compound from the bark but then lost interest. Thirty years later Felix Hoffman a German chemist, looking for a cure to ease his father’s rheumatism produced a purer compound that the Bayer Co. trade marked as Aspirin on March 6th 1899. It was an immediate success and Felix eased the pain of many whilst sensibly avoiding some of life’s headaches by being a confirmed bachelor.

Half pint hand pulled at Turf Tavern in Oxford. March 08 Gold Medal Ales from the brewery. Golden body with a white lacing patch on the surface. Light floral smell followed by a smooth and dry hoppy taste added a touch of honey. Short bitter end (17.03.2008).

Cask @ The Wenlock.
Golden with a thin white film of head. Slightly floral, grassy hop nose with some underlying malts. Taste is much the same, simple but quite well balanced and pleasant. I really liked it.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark gold. Citric hop aroma. Taste is grassy and citric with a little bitterness and some metallic notes. Quite sharp late bitterness. Is this the first beer to be aspirin-themed? Are Burton Bridge producing too many of these once-off monthly specials?
