2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 wheresthepath (1083) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - AUG 23, 2010
[Cask at the Three Guineas, Reading] Ruby-brown, large beige head & a slight fizz. Sour, woody aroma. Earthy taste with hints of smoke, coffee and blackberry. Very bitter for the style, which rather ruins the underlying flavours.
3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 RichardW (929) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - MAY 13, 2010
Cask, King’s Head, Carlisle. A fine dark mild. Deep ruby black appearance, with an off-yellow head, which foamed nicely and remained throughout the pint(s). I found this really balanced - enough sweetness and juicy fruit flavours as you’d expect/hope for in a beer of this style, with hints of chocoalte aswell, but offset with just enough bitterness, bringing out dryness in the finish. The unmistakeable Burton taste comes through very well. The only downside was it being a little low in aroma.
