2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 DruncanVeasey (5146) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - SEP 13, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2009 The Crown, Nuneaton. Still and collarless. Liquorice, earth and faint smoke. Hint of dusty choc as it warms. Inappropriate, almost Flemish sourness. Lacks body and conditioning. Difficult.
(Re-rate, back at The Crown). Curranty aroma with oily English hop and buttery hints. Dark ruby becoming headless. Sticky dark fruit, faint marzipan, vinous splashes. Bitterness more hop than roast-derived. Better, but still a bit feeble and unstouty.

Cask at GBBF08. Fruity and roasted aroma. Almost black colour, small frothy head. The flavour starts off roasted with a little liquorice, turns fruity and finally sourish and salty. Strange combination, but OK.

Cask, Burton Winter Fest 06. Near black, dark brown, no head. Aromas are earthy sweet roast malts with some nuttiness and smokiness. Flavours are earthy, light roast malts with some smokiness. Soft and mellow in character with unfortunate hints of metal and a stale character. Thick and oily on the palate.
