Commercial Description:
It was created in 1933 by Alfred Dubuisson, grand-father of the present family brewer, Hugues. Its former name was "Bush Beer 24°" (the density in Ballings), but today it is known as Bush Amber. Its amber colour is due to the use of caramel malt in the production process. Its bitter sweet taste provides it with firmness and personality. What's more, it helps digestion.

The aroma is a mixture of fruit, caramel malt, and alcohol. The color is amber with a white head. Initially there is a slight sweetness that is quickly tempered by a slight spiciness and alcohol warming sensation.

There are so many things "wrong" with this beer, no head to speak of, over carbonated, too hot, yet somehow I still like this one. Flavor has some nutmeg and brown sugar, but the carbonation keeps it from being too sweet. It doesn’t hide its 12%, but it isn’t as in your face as some of the big Avery.

Clear appearance with a medium dark golden orange hue. Nose is faint sugars, honey and vanilla. Mouthfeel is light for 12%, a bit syrupy, carbonation is a little too fizzy and there’s a small alcohol hit at the back of the tongue. Flavors are light and sweet, not too complex, some alcohol and fuesal notes, and some light sweet maple. Interesting but ultimately a letdown.

On tap into Bush glass, Delirium Tremens, Brussels. Since it’s so late, and I don’t have a hostel for tonight, I decided to just swill some of the “regular” Belgian beers and stay away from the bottle list. Glowing translucent amber with eggshell head leaving the familiar island-cum-thick ring around the outside. Herbal smell and buttered bread is weak and not that appetizing. On the good side, the tight lace clings beautifully to the side of the glass, and the racing is thick, deep and slow. Now, back to the critique: flavor is off, not sure how; thin malty dextrose is mealy with that predominant herbal character from the smell working underneath. Finish is almost nonexistent, except for a lingering meal and fattiness covering the echo of hops, which step in for about three seconds of oxidized metal and then vamoose. For all that criticism, though...shiz aight.

One my all time favorites when I went to Beligum, really is great with dark chocolate.
