COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It was created in 1933 by Alfred Dubuisson, grand-father of the present family brewer, Hugues. Its former name was "Bush Beer 24°" (the density in Ballings), but today it is known as Bush Amber. Its amber colour is due to the use of caramel malt in the production process. Its bitter sweet taste provides it with firmness and personality. What's more, it helps digestion.

I think Scaldis almost has hints of tannins (perhaps aging in oak?), even though this really is a flavor attributed more to a red wine and the ’skins’ of the grapes. I think I like Scaldis because although it strong, the brewers use liberal amounts of hops to offset the sweetness of the malt. Nice and warming.

Single bottle from the SAQ, labelled "Scaldis Ambrée" at 11.8% ABV. Pours a fizzy amber colour with a frothy off-white head that has decent retention and a little lacing. Fruity apple aromas at first with hints of rusty water (from the hop) and butterscotch. The alcohol is present, but very well-hidden, considering the high level of it. Even in the mouthfeel, no burning. Slight warming in the finish. Sweet malt taste, but not overly (which is its strong point here). The apples are still there, but the caramel takes a bit over. The alcohol shows in the aftertaste, but again, no burning. Not a bad, really strong beer.

Chestnut light colour, medium white head, warm caramel sweet smell, wine like, warm alcoholic taste, yet a bit soft in the mouth, sticky, a bit sour

Bottle. Pours murky amber with negligible off-white head and considerable sediment. Clear aroma of malt and yeast with caramellish and fruity notes. Sweetish, malty taste with touches of caramel and fruit. Well-discernible presence of alcohol. Not bad, but must be re-rated, as the bottle was well past the BBD.

Bottle from shop in central brussels; very hot tripel like flavour but without the complexity quite nasty thickness that’s cloys vague raisins and fruit flavours. Avoid !

Alkoholen varmer magen og smaken varmer sansene og sjelen. Belgium, here we come!

citrus, amber, clear, minimal head, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, thick feel, flat, bitter, great!

2007 bottle opened in 2013. Heavy sediment. Strong raisin and prunes. Drain poured the 2nd half - but this could hit the spot for some people.
