3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JoeinEscazú (1181) - San Jose, - NOV 29, 2006
UPDATED: APR 20, 2008 My palate and mind have changed toward this beer, which I initially saw as simple, sweet and alcoholic. I was 2/3 right, but this beer is not so simple, and it uses the alcohol as a bone fide part of the flavor and aroma. This is meant to be serious stuff, although the moderate bitterness does keep a semblance of balance with sweetness and booze. The caramel and orange notes bring a certain depth, and so does that full, cotton-candy mouthfeel. After having a few times I give up and decide that it just tastes pretty damn good, and there is a certain time and a place for a beer like this. It’s dessert after a big steak dinner or just that last nightcap after a long day.

Pours orange with a tiny white head. Malty aroma and taste. Some warming alcohol but still well blanced for a 12% beer.
Robe orange avec un léger collet blanc. Arôme et goût maltés. L’alcool est présent, mais bien équilibré dans cette bière à 12 %.

Rich, alcohol tasting. Nice and harsh. Functions ideally as a beer to "switch it up" at the pub.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 9, 2012
From BA (Oct 2007). Obtained this 33cl brown bottle from a ’Night Shop’ in Brussels last year (2006), didn’t notice the shop keeper had removed the rear label (I wonder how old it is?).
Poured into a Palm tulip shaped glass.
Good off white head sits on top of an amber, hazy body. Plenty carbonisation within the glass, rising to replenish the head.
Heavy alcohol aroma with malt and hops trying to be found as well.
The taste is obviously mostly of 12% alcohol, but barley malts can also be tasted, this is well balanced for such a strong beer.
The alcohol takes over again in the mouthfeel and it becomes more harsh on the throat as it fades away.
I have had this on tap in Brussels and i enjoyed it then too, this is a good beer, but don’t forget the strenght, it is a nightcap drink, not a session one.

0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 kiwianer (698) - Mönchengladbach, GERMANY - MAY 6, 2012
Okay... "The strongest Belgian Bier" steht auf der Flasche na das glaub ich jetz mal nicht, auch wenn 12% nicht wenig sind. Es riecht ähnlich wie bearbeitete Kirschen. Geschmacklich ist es sehr süß und alkoholisch, dann wird es extrem sußsauer, dies schmeckt mit dem starken Alkohol echt wiederlich. Nur unangenehm nichts positives. Fazit: Ungenießbar!
Test vom 12.4.2009, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,2,2,1,-,2 - 1,82
