This is a sweet beer with a pleasant flavour of hops. Indeed, for Bush de Noel, the brewer uses a traditional process which consists in placing hops flowers in the vats where the beer rests for four to six weeks by which time it will have reached full maturity, giving it a very distinctive taste. In the U.S the label generally reads Scaldis Noel.

Jästig mörk torkad frukt & söt doft. Även karamell som finns i smaken. Belgo jäst smak. Kroppen medelfyllig. Stark alkoholsötma. Torkad frukt. Hade gärna fått varit fylligare. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reviewed on 07/02/15. Bottle, 330ml. A maple beer with a medium to small head. Aroma is of dried fruits, spices, alcohol and caramel with a hint of bananas. Taste is bitter with an alcoholic finish. Robust and somewhat dense. Sweet aftertaste. Well brewed and very warming; a nice Christmas beer.

Bottle, 33cl. Clear dark orange with a frothy tan head. Very intense and layered aroma. Very fruity, with hints of caramel, toffee, licorice, vanilla. Robust with moderate carbonation. Intensely sweet and heavily bitter. Inmensely complex, with a strong malt backbone and tremendous alcohol and bitter finish. Not the most drinkable beer at 12% ABV, but perfect for after a heavy meal or on a rainy day. Exquisite.

Colour: ruby meets copper. Medium sized head. Nose: fruity sweetness, apple syrup, caramel, hints of orange peel, spices. Flavours: candy sugar, forest fruits, herbs and spices, apricots. Finish: long, fruity, mellow, warming. Flavours echo for a while. Verdict: Very fine Christmas ale, albeit a very strong one, which isnít really noticeable.

From the archives: several years ago. I did not payed much attention to it. Wife brought it from Brussels, and I did not sit down for this one. I remember it being good seasonal ale. Hard and heavy.

Appearance: Very transparent body that is a dark reddish brown. As soon as the beer is poured it forms a creamy white head that quickly becomes absent. Given the ABV of 12% I wouldnít consider that a big detraction.

Aroma: I get a strong banana aroma followed by some light alcohol esters. Nothing else is noticeable.

Taste: There is a light caramel flavor that is met by the strong flavor of banana chips and alcohol. There isnít a whole lot that makes this beer interesting.

Mouthfeel: Light despite the high ABV. A slight lingering astringent sensation.

Overall: I wasnít that impressed. Not all Christmas beers are spiced, and sometimes a simple boost in alcohol is what many will consider a holiday ale. Although this may be the case, the beer just wasnít memorable. Overall it was just an average Belgian beer.

Brilliant, shimmering ruby red with a film of fine cream-colored head. Aroma is lager-like: grass, mineral content, hints of candy cherry and strawberry. As it breaths I get cotton candy. Flavor is also surprisingly less Belgian than I would expect. Some candy cherry cough syrup on grassy hops and lager-like yeast. Hints of medicinal herbs. Medium body, watery-syrupy. Carbonation is moderate, medium-fine, low burn, felt blanket with some fizzle sensation. Overall: I wish it was drier, maybe slightly lighter on the palate, more Belgian in nature, and less cough syrup in flavor. Itís possible that Iím just in a critical mood, so Iíll have to try this again at some point, but Iím really not feeling it.
