2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nose=Alcohol Taste=Alcohol Aftertaste=Alcohol. I realize this is a Belgian Strong Ale but they did a horrible job hiding the alcohol. The alcohol overpowers all flavors and aroma.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Colour: ruby meets copper. Medium sized head.
Nose: fruity sweetness, apple syrup, caramel, hints of orange peel, spices.
Flavours: candy sugar, forest fruits, herbs and spices, apricots.
Finish: long, fruity, mellow, warming. Flavours echo for a while.
Verdict: Very fine Christmas ale, albeit a very strong one, which isn’t really noticeable.

From the archives: several years ago. I did not payed much attention to it. Wife brought it from Brussels, and I did not sit down for this one. I remember it being good seasonal ale. Hard and heavy.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: Very transparent body that is a dark reddish brown. As soon as the beer is poured it forms a creamy white head that quickly becomes absent. Given the ABV of 12% I wouldn’t consider that a big detraction.
Aroma: I get a strong banana aroma followed by some light alcohol esters. Nothing else is noticeable.
Taste: There is a light caramel flavor that is met by the strong flavor of banana chips and alcohol. There isn’t a whole lot that makes this beer interesting.
Mouthfeel: Light despite the high ABV. A slight lingering astringent sensation.
Overall: I wasn’t that impressed. Not all Christmas beers are spiced, and sometimes a simple boost in alcohol is what many will consider a holiday ale. Although this may be the case, the beer just wasn’t memorable. Overall it was just an average Belgian beer.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Brilliant, shimmering ruby red with a film of fine cream-colored head. Aroma is lager-like: grass, mineral content, hints of candy cherry and strawberry. As it breaths I get cotton candy. Flavor is also surprisingly less Belgian than I would expect. Some candy cherry cough syrup on grassy hops and lager-like yeast. Hints of medicinal herbs. Medium body, watery-syrupy. Carbonation is moderate, medium-fine, low burn, felt blanket with some fizzle sensation. Overall: I wish it was drier, maybe slightly lighter on the palate, more Belgian in nature, and less cough syrup in flavor. It’s possible that I’m just in a critical mood, so I’ll have to try this again at some point, but I’m really not feeling it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Great amber colour, surprisingly clear for a "live" belgian ale. Aroma is bananas and boiled sweets. Boiled sweets in the taste as well. Spicy but without the over the top cloves and cinnamon thang you get with most xmas beers. Good carbonation and light palate make this too drinkable for a 12% beer. Very nice.
