5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 corkyrory66 (259) - BELGIUM - JUN 7, 2012
DUBUISSON.

Spicy & palate pleasing. Aroma is sweet & toasty, without an overbearing alcohol scent.

HUGE aroma! Brilliant amber color with some sediment. Very stable head, full body, extremely viscous. Very sweet, warming, spicy, jammy, sherry(?). Not a beer to be taken lightly. More assertive and medicinal than Bush/Scaldis original.

75cL bottle from www.belgianshop.com. Pours hazy coppery bronze with a medium-tall lasting foamy off-white tanish head and loads of miniscule bubbles. Oak and cellared yeast aroma, caramel malt not too heavy, with a fruity nose (apple, pear); cookie-like. Honeyed caramel malt and sweet brown sugar flavor, yeast (sweet bread) and medium acidity that does not hang on the palate long; alcohol becomes more noticeable as the beer warms. Medium body, lightly fizzy and slightly dry, creamy overall mouthfeel.

Cider-sweet flavor. Goes down smooth, creamy and velvety. Wintery hops, balanced but robust.

Pours a dark amber-brown, nice bubbly head, decent lace. Aromas are malt, buttery nuts, roast pork, peat, smoke, molasses, honey, yeast and bread. Flavor is marvelous toasty sweet malt, with notes of fruit, spice and honey. High ABV makes it nicely warming but absent any alcohol harshness or spice in either the nose or the taste. Nice hop contribution, especially to the aftertaste, but not overly bitter in the mouth. Nice thick chewy texture.

A bit darker than it’s sister brew (Bush/Scaldis) with very nice spice overtones. It’s body more than carries its strength, and its flavor makes it a superb winter warmer.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 jimhilt (2283) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 29, 2010
Cork bounced off ceiling but pours a slight white head that fades quickly, leaving no lace. Almost clear amber color, with some floaties. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Dark fruit and alcohol nose. Flavor is sweet, dark fruit and hints of the very high ABV which label puts at 13%. Warming, nice strong ale. Worth trying at $18.95 for a caged and corked 750ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 pivo (2540) - GERMANY - DEC 31, 2002
This knocked me over – wasn’t expecting it. Nice copper color and low tight head. Apples and caramel in the nose. Heavy malt body with spicy cinnamon tones in the middle. Chalky finish. Thick like a barley wine – reminded me of Bigfoot, but the alcohol remains in the background.
4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 closey22 (326) - Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, USA - DEC 29, 2007
Cloudy brown/reddish amber with lasting beige head. Aroma is of cinnamon and apple. Flavor of sweetened fruit(apple/pear) spice (cin/nutmeg) and alcohol. Feels very rich and creamy with some zingy effervescence. Finished long and sweet(apples), tingling the tongue. Joyeaux Noel!
