Like the Brasserie Dubuissons renowned Scaldis Prestige, Scaldis Prestige de Nuits is aged in oak barrels for six months. But Prestige de Nuits is made of Scaldis Noel aged in Bourgogne barrels from the world famous "Nuits St. Georges" vineyard. The result is an ale of extraordinary complexity and depth.

Bush de Nol, ripened for 7 months on wine casks from Burgundy (Nuits-St.-Georges).

I had two entirely different sets of reactions. When i had my first glass I thought of a slightly fizzy slightly sweet red wine spritzer and was not impressed. An hour later the same beer was delightful. Is it possible that a red wine barrel aged beer needs to breathe? Who knows. Here is my second set of impressions. Appearance is perfect. Indeed, the appearance of the bottle is so perfect that the appearance of the beer hardly matters, but that is perfect also, like a slightly hazy, reddish tripel, but with a very small tan head. Nose is complex but simple to describe, malts and Burgundy wine. Taste is complex and simple as well, Belgian tripel, without the floral, lavender, lilac notes of the basic Prestige, but with complexity from from the Burgundy again. I thought it was great, obviously, but I docked it a point for being over 10% alcohol and another point for its price. 13% ABV makes a beer scary dangerous, and $39.96 for a single bottle of beer, purchased at the case price, is just too high. And yet, Im glad I have the rest of the case waiting for me!

Clear reddish-brown beer, medium off-white head. Nose is red wine, malt and fruit, mild acidity, berries. Flavor is woody, with red wine, tart notes, some more mild acidity, fruit and berries, malt that borders on breadiness. Dry and vinous finish, some warming alcohol. Smooth and complex, although the body has thinned from the barrel ageing.

Not sure what Cuve Spciale 2014 means, but okay. Light misty copper body, large head. Perfect looks for the style, faultless. Much more sourness than expected. Sticky fruit, figs, woody, berries, red wine. Quite complex. Really a beer that lasts you all night long and never bores. One if the best classic Belgians Ive tasted in a long time! (75cl bottle from trade with VDuquerroux, many thanks!)

Fles cuvée 2014 gekocht bij Drankenhuys Bergmans in mijn woonplaats Waalwijk. Ingeschonken in originele Bush craquelé graal bokaal. Brasserie Dubuisson maakt bijzondere bieren. Binnenkort de Bush de Charmes beoordelen!

75cl bottle. Hazy brownish amber colour with a nice off-white head. Caramel, oak, vinous, prunes and malts in the aroma. Soft carbonation and full to medium body. Taste is complex with different levels of flavours but balanced and elegant at the same time. Long sweet finish. Overall, a very very good beer.
