Like the Brasserie Dubuisson’s renowned Scaldis Prestige, Scaldis Prestige de Nuits is aged in oak barrels for six months. But Prestige de Nuits is made of Scaldis Noel aged in Bourgogne barrels from the world famous "Nuits St. Georges" vineyard. The result is an ale of extraordinary complexity and depth.

Bush de Noël, ripened for 7 months on wine casks from Burgundy (Nuits-St.-Georges).

I had two entirely different sets of reactions. When i had my first glass I thought of a slightly fizzy slightly sweet red wine spritzer and was not impressed. An hour later the same beer was delightful. Is it possible that a red wine barrel aged beer needs to breathe? Who knows. Here is my second set of impressions. Appearance is perfect. Indeed, the appearance of the bottle is so perfect that the appearance of the beer hardly matters, but that is perfect also, like a slightly hazy, reddish tripel, but with a very small tan head. Nose is complex but simple to describe, malts and Burgundy wine. Taste is complex and simple as well, Belgian tripel, without the floral, lavender, lilac notes of the basic Prestige, but with complexity from from the Burgundy again. I thought it was great, obviously, but I docked it a point for being over 10% alcohol and another point for its price. 13% ABV makes a beer scary dangerous, and $39.96 for a single bottle of beer, purchased at the case price, is just too high. And yet, I’m glad I have the rest of the case waiting for me!

Bottle. Red brown, small quickly receding off-white head. Aroma wild cherries in alcohol, coffee. Vivid carbonation, quite full but clean body. Taste cherries, red wine, raisins. Some qualities of sour ale. Unusual and complex, glad to have tried. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared bottle at Mandag i annen at Cardinal. Pours cloudy amber with little off-white head. Aroma of red wine, vinegar, cherry, acetone, wood, horse stable. Sweet-sour taste with a lot of alcohol and some acetone; red wine, berries, honey.

A beautiful, dark reddish beer with a big and blond head. The nose has strong raisins, quite sweet, prune, intensive, sherry. Taste has strong raisins, dried fruits, some barrel, sherry, nice sweetness, no alcohol, slightly drying end. Full bodied, strong carbonation that is lightening the palate, not heavy. Very lots of raisins, even like sherry. Very rich and intensive beer.

Large foamy beige Head with distinct aromas of lambic, raspberry and rosé wine. Body is amber colored with notes of ruby. Delicate and long fruity taste, yellow berries. Like a lambic without the bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a glass. Medium brown with small white head. Aroma is dark candy sugar, dark fruit, medium body, medium/well carbonated, and little lacing. Taste is dark candy sugar, dark fruit, nice red wine, some oak, and some spice. Reconstructed from old rating, seems to have vanished. Dark amber coloured and almost clear. Has a white head, lasting. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, notes of port-wine, fruit. Sweet flavor, warming alcohol. Creamy texture.

In bottle (2013 vintage); really enjoyed this one as it is quite different. AT first, aroma was of peach and nectarine when chilled, as it warmed it turned to apple and vanilla. Very smooth and easy drinking given the alcohol % ... I would absolutely buy this one again (if I can)
