Bottle shared by fonefan on 8/28/09: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel with light fruity esters and nice vinous oaky complexity. Starts with good malty sweetness and caramel toffee with lots of light fruity notes and good vinous oaky balance before a warming finish. This should age very well, but is quite enjoyable now.

Deep orange-brown beer, smal brown-yellow head. Very woody/acetic nose, extremely vinous, raisins in balsamicovinegar. Sweeter, less acetic taste (unless in the finish, where alcohol- and acidburn walk together), raisins in balsamico. Chocolate int he aftertaste, as well as very soft mintlike flavour. Enormous alcoholwarming, very smooth alcoholy. Still 14% seems very heavy because of the acids. Terribly promising, vinous , this is going to be unbeatable in 1.5/2 years. Thanks, Dirk, for the first bottle in Flanders!

Big thanks to bu11zeye for this. Cuvee Speciale 2008. I thought it was Prestige at first (that’s a bit what the bottle looks like). Best Before 2011. Pours with a hazed brown body and a light brown head. Aroma has some sourness, very dry with champagne, brett, read wine and CO2. Taste is slightly sour with a bit of alcohol, tons of dryness and earthiness. A bit of red wine rounds out the flavor. Dry with light alcohol presence. Very solid!

750ml. Hazy garnet/orange, soft. Lovely nose of prickly lacto and tannic grape skins. Sweaty, musty, salty, peppery, perfume-like. Lovely aroma. Cloying and sugared throughout. Thick and syrupy. Tingly corn syrup overloaded sweetness. Barrel character is lively and peppery, moderate tannins. Too thick, too cloying, but nicely prickly/peppery finishing over an incredible length of time. Later on the nose develops this armpit solvent and perfume sugared red fruit character.

Bottle. Dark brown and red with a small head. Aromas are toffee and spices with oranges. Floral with fruity sweets. Peppery alcohol. Flavours are sweet spiced oranges with burnt toffee malts. Vinous red wine character. Strong but not aggressive alcohol. A bit unbalanced but still good
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Sammy (6119) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 26, 2010
Finished a bomber of this fine unique beverage, in the very glass it was designed for. Thanks for sendng both BelgBeerGeek. Pours a blackish cognac coloured body with an initially notion only of a head. The aroma is rich wine (it was aged in such for 6 months), and the taste is secondary to this Belgian ale, with some chocolate. Special though not extraordinary special.Above average mouthfeel.

Aroma is yeasty, malty, fruity, vanilla, wood, and some light funky notes. Flavor is great. Sweet and tart mix wonderfully here. The red wine notes are in harmony with the sweet fruits, caramel and malt. Nice, damn damn nice!

Bottle that was very kindly picked up for me by Loz’s parents in Bruges, Belgium, Oct 08, many thanks, consumed with my dad and others 31-12-08. Pours chesnut in colour with a little cloudiness. Aroma is sweet and sour, wet wood and with some nuts, quite lovely. Wonderfully warming but the alcohol never intrudes. Fruity, oaky, lovely sourness, a stunner and nice that a beer lived up to my high expectations of it. I wish I’d have got a couple, because I reckon with a couple of years on this it will taste even better A8 A4 F8 P5 OV 17 4.2
