Down a potholed muddy road in Yallingup you will find this little boutique brewpub and cafe. Very relaxed atmosphere with the feel of a University pub. Selection of about six beers on tap, also made available in bottles. This is the rating for the chocolate ale from the bottle beer. Dark brown, medium tan head that lasted half the glass. Cocoa powder aromas along with roasted malt. Bitter dark chocolate palate, a little yeasty. Not bad at all!

Listed as a milk stout. On draught @ Bush Shack brewery, Yallingup.
Muddy dark brown, opaque, with fine carbonation rising up to a dollop of whipped tannish cream that lasts. Thick chocolate mudcake and icecream nose, quite nutty, rich yet dusty with a little hint of wood and yeast. Quite meaty, chunky in mouthfeel, full and rounded with a smooth finish. Light tannins and rust notes peak out under some robust chocolate malts and a flavour eerily reminiscent of velvety chocolate icecream. A hint of wood and roasted nuts in the aftertaste, linger long amongst the sweet chocolate, giving good balance. Better warmed up a little, the carbonation very light, the sweetness restrained from offsetting it. Not exactly session stuff, but it has come a long way from when I first tried it half a decade ago. Cleaned up and tasty, a nice ale.

Choos (507) - Taylors Hill, AUSTRALIA - FEB 5, 2006
Aroma: definate hints of cocoa, malt and other mochery coffee notes. Appearance: short lasting cappacino coloured head made from big bubbles. Chocolate coloured and clear with hints of red and large floculated particles (chocolate or yeast?). Flavour: Super sweet chocolate with a hint of hop and roastiness. Palate: medium to thick mouthfeel with a lingering chocolate/cocoa film and taste.

21 Jan 05 - Sweet choc well rounded malt aroma. Dark brown-black colour, good brown head but doesn’t retain well, with suds lacing. Sweet choc lightly roasted malt. Tangy, thickish mouthfeel. This beer could offer more complexity.

Dark ruby colour, foamy head doesn’t last at all. This reminded me far too much of Chicos. When I first smelled it from the bottle the aroma jumped out at me, but when I poured it into the glass I thought that it was a more authentic cocoa-ey aroma, but that didn’t last long. Smells like artificial chocolate flavour - choc topping/Chico - and not much else, perhaps a bit of yeast. Tastes SWEET. Like Mackeson’s or Sweetheart stouts. Blech. This is Chico-flavoured soft drink with some roast malt astringency, and I don’t really like Chicos. No good at all. Lucky they do some other good stuff.

Pours dark brown with amber highlights when held to light. Huge tan head fading to medium lasting. Toffee and fake chocolate aroma. Thin watery feel. Sweet cola with artificial chocolate flavouring. Not great, but not horrible either.

Amber brown colouring with a lower tone for its good head. Smokey chocolatey brew. Its OK.

Coffee/chocolate milkshake aroma, brown colour with a generous lasting head and good brussels lace. This tastes like they have dumped a whole packet of cadbury's drinking chocolate in it. No big flavours but otherwise it is inoffensive.

Faint hazy dark amber brown under a medium size very short lasting cola like head. Malt, liquorice and artificial fruity alcohol and boot polish aroma. Medium thin flat generic cola like body. Faint sweet malt with hint of smoke and touch of sweet chocolate flavours. Reminds me somewhat of the infamous Heineken Oud Bruin. Watery artificial floral perfumey finish aka Florisgaarden Chocolate but slightly more porterish.
