Sixth months from its bottling date this one is currently available for testing on draught at the brewery, and I must say is not too shabby at this point.
Produced up a radiant, whispily hazy, ruddy chestnut with fine conditioning and a tight, resilient, creamy tan pad atop that leaves some solid lace. Thick, rum soaked Christmas fruit cake aroma, still warm from the oven, permeates in dense wafts from the glass. Quite spicy, sweet and savoury all bound by a prickly sense of the alcohol. Treacly, big body, smooth, heated and rounded on the palate. Nice depth of sweet melanoidins; toffee, Anzac biscuits, sticky date pudding, balanced by spicy, tangy and mildly bitter, dried dark fruit. Finish just prolongs the depth of flavour pulled up on the palate. Warming swallow with residual burnt fruit and bitter/sweet treacle notes, maybe just a smidgeon of smoke. Keeps well, much more alive once it’s warmed, this I couldn’t do in bulk but loved it as a nip. A hearty, controlled and freakishly good slow sipper. (Draught @ Bush Shack Brewery, Yallingup)
