I sampled it on tap and wasn’t terribly impressed. It was dry and alcoholic, and the flavor didn’t live up to the smell. Overall it tasted like a generic dry apple cider, not a blackberry mead. Okay, but not what I expected.

On tap at Bushwakkers in Regina. Not sure why folks would line up at 3 in the morning for this one. I must be missing something

(650ml bottle) Courtesy of Paco, shared with Beershine and Oakes. Aroma of sweet and sour cherries with a pink-red body. Flavour is tart, smokey with a honey residue in the finish. Not terribly well done.

The fruit is quite notable in the nose although it is quite sweet. Pours like a rosé wine. Flavour is very sweet and sugary but there’s not a lot of honey character and the fruit really isn’t all that apparent. Somewhat watery in texture and a little bit sticky. Tulip glass. Fridge temperature. Bottle sampled at the Olympic 2010 tasting.

Weird purple-pink colour. Aroma is like a can of frozen juice concentrate. Frozen juice flavour, a little yeast and white sugar. Some blackberry but just doesn’t come through well. Too much sugar.

Beershine (4718) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - FEB 19, 2010
bottle shared by CapFlu. Color of rose wine, a blush red. Interesting aroma. Alcohol is apparent. Rich and slightly phenolic nose is inoffensive. Has wine cooler quality. Very light, with champagne effervescence. Faint blackberry in the background but not fruity enough.

Orangey-pink colour. If fizzed up then all head and carbonation died out....peculiar behaviour. Winey aroma with a light fruit accent. Very fizzy on the tongue. Some light fruit, but overall limited character. Not a mead to seek out.

Bottled sample via paco. Clear dark pink in colour with mild carbonation. Aromas are of artificially sweet black current, and booze. Very lightweight in the mouth, with simple fruit notes of current, blackberry, and under ripe cherry. Could probably pass for a strong wine cooler.

mabel (4405) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 31, 2008
[1716-20080917] 650mL bottle. Perfumy dark berry wine characteristics aroma with mild cherry hard candy hints. Clear, pink red body with quick foamy white bubbles. Dry berry fruit flavour is weak. Light-medium body has a bad dry/sour tang finish (similar feel to carbonation but without bubbles?). May be a little old but is not terrible.

Bottle shared with jerc, mabel, blankboy & HogTownHarry - my bottle. Bright pink-rose with a small head. Aroma of tart blackberries with a slightly funky honey note. Crisp body. Flavour of tart berries, quite dry and refreshing. The bottle was over a year old, so perhaps a bit past its prime, but still not too bad, just kinda boring.
