2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, - DEC 14, 2006
Aroma offered suggestions of herbal hops, wheat, flowers and vanilla. Lightly hazy deep golden body topped by a thin, rapidly and fully diminishing white head. Alcohol very apparent along with wheat, flowers and herbal notes. Strong warming and low carbonation. Going away party.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 radiomgb (2078) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 12, 2007
Murky golden in colour, small white coloured head, no retention, no lacing. The aroma is of alcoholic apples, some floral hops, light spice and wheat. The flavour is mainly of alcohol, fruit, floral hops, light caramel sweetness. Alcoholic mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes quite sweet, lingering and hot. I wish I knew how old this bottle was, I’m thinking that it wasn’t the freshest.

Pours a clear golden color with no head. Aroma of caramel, wheat and alcohol. The flavor has some wheat, hops and caramel but it’s mostly alcohol. The body is light to medium with a liqourous texture while the carbonation level is way too low. Not too good.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 paco (527) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - DEC 3, 2006
Dark gold colour with ultra thin fading head. Very strong alcohol taste of course. too much malty bitterness. i expected a sweeter maltier taste.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - OCT 15, 2006
500 ml bottle shared with several Quebecois and one other drunk American at tiggmtl’s going away party in Montreal, from a New Belgium glass. Amber-gold in color, clear with no head or lacing, problems.....piney-hoppy nose with faint wheat sourness and more than a touch of raw alcohol, though I’m not taking too much off for that with the ABV listed and all....moderatetly sweet with a bit of alcohol, not as much as in the nose, touch of orangy character, lots of sourdough bready stuff going on....low carbonation, really kind of boring overall though as David suggested, there were hints that the bottle may not have been in perfect shape.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 6, 2006
500mL green swingtop bottle. Very clear light amber, headless and looking frankly dull. Gently wheaty nose bears a strong cracker or soda resemblance while salted oranges and cookieish nuances are formed. Oily mouthfeel, the alcohol is very obvious, though for 13% that had to be expected. The centennial character seems to have faded a bit since bottling too as I barely can notice orange character, but none of the rich earthy and spicy tea-like aromas I usually associate with it. Mostly light bodied, though slick vinous texture with no carbonation and soft edges. I have difficulty to imagine a wheat beer so clear, especially when it’s a barleywine, though otherwise, the pale malt idea was interesting and setting us for a nice change of pace from the usual. Perhaps simply not the best bottle.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 4, 2006
Any first impressions?
-Completely headless, this peach golden warrior could make a competent mead look-alike.
-Honey branches out into bubblegum fruitiness in the nose, as feeble hoppiness doesn’t show its true colors.
-Honey-fed grain alcohol is what I get from the first sips.
-The very low carbonation showcases the decent maltiness, as well as the apparent simplicity of the beer.
What if you dig deeper?
-The fat sweetness smothers the white grapes and oranges.
-There is saltiness to be found within, which doesn’t agree with the brutish alcohol recoil effect.
-The near-lifeless mouthfeel and cloying, simple sweetness weren’t what I’d call enjoyable.
-To my tastebuds, this seems to be a incohesive attempt at a mead replacement, or a fancy malt liquor. But apparently I’m in the minority so far, so I hope I can try it again to try and see what others are raving about.
Bottle.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lubiere (6988) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 26, 2006
This is a great beer that Todd brought back, Golden orange ale with no head. Smooth alcohol with light hops and orange notes, honey. and light floral hops. Smooth vinous ale with good hops, treacle, and intense alcohol vapours. Rich bodied, viscous and good. God, Rudge, you are the man! Merci toddy! Enjoyed with Capflu on Feb. 18, 2006.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 piscator34 (1644) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 2, 2006
Sampled at Winnipeg Brew Bombers Homebrew club meeting. Dark gold in colour with medium carbonation. Orangey Centennial hop aromas are mixed with notes of wildflower honey and vanilla. The mouthfeel is full without being at all syrup-like. Some flavor contributions from the Centennial hops combine with other notes of cotton candy, honey, and sweet malt. Some nice bitterness on the finish. The alcohol is extremely well hidden too. Fantastic stuff.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 4, 2006
(500ml swing-top ceramic bottle) Purchased at Bushwakkers on December 29, 2005, for $9. Pours a very thin, creamy head that settles to the edge of the glass. The colour of the body is a delightful deep amber without carbonation. Aromas of honey, whiskey malt and warm cream tickle the nose. My palate is treated to a milky and fruity malt, honey water, crushed rose pedals and thin machine oil. Very very balanced as its neither very sweet nor too alcoholic. This is very tasty - I look forward to aging the other 3 bottles...
