Thanks to paco for this. Pours a thick dark brown with very little carbonation. Aroma is barley, small roasties, although it’s a little faint. Taste is a little syrupy, raisin and plum. Barley and although it has sat for a year, a hair boozy but still really nice.

Bottle, trade from paco-- thanks buddy!-- shared with Parksy. Beautiful deep orange amber with a creamy golden crown that remains a permanent fixture to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is supremely malty, with tons of toast and toffee and brown sugar, subtle orange peel. Smells awesome! Rich malty flavours, burnt sugar, toast, subtle spices, medium hoppy finish. Stickiness is offset by a dry finish. Not quite as full bodied as I expected, but that’s reaching for criticism really. I thought this was freaking delicious!

Thanks paco for the bottle! Better drink this up with a BBD of July 13, 2010. Poured out a brown/red brew with a small bubbly medium tan head that holds up for a bit and leaves small, spotty lacing. Tons of malts and a thick sweet plum and date nose. Toffee, chocolate, fruit cake, cinnamon, maraschino cherry, weak liqueur and a touch medicinal. The taste is pretty good but lacks the punch I hoped for - no big deal really. Big malts, toffee, thick warm citrus concoction, apricot, mild not-overly sweet cherry, hint of sweet cinnamon and a back lash of a hard spice hits and then fades in the distance. Pretty slick feel that works and doesn’t annoy, sweet malts on the finish with a decent lingering bitterness. That bastard Kovalchuk signed for 17yrs and $102 mil... if I had that kind of money I’d buy more beer.

12 oz. glass on tap. Pours a nice dark reddish brown colour with a small tan head, hazy. Aroma is of caramel malts, toffee, vanilla and some sweet fruits, the aroma is nice but it was somewhat muted. Taste is fairly malty with a nice sweetness to it too, quite nice. Medium-full body, average carbonation with a thick oily mouth feel. I did notice it improved as it became warmer, overall though a pretty good beer.

My rating is a combination of ratings from a tap sample and a bottled sample. Pours nice and dark with a beautiful thick off white head. Flavor notes of toffee, caramel, malt, apricot, dates and some hop presence. Very full aroma. Worlds better from the tap. Taste is full bodied with lots of apricot/date flavor. Fairly sweet toffee and a nice malty balance. Towards the end you notice the hops coming to life. I left a bottle out for an hour and a half before opening and that made a huge difference. This is meant to be consumed close to room temperature. I agree with Crel that this one is only going to get better. I can’t wait!
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Crel (33) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - APR 17, 2010
Sweet aroma with hints of toffee, citrus and apple. It pours a deep amber with a large tan head, that leaves a good lacing as it dissipates. It is a very malty beer, and the initial taste is quite sweet. It takes a second for the hops flavor to make itself known. There is little complexity to the flavor as Malt and hops make up the bulk of it. Some notes of dried apricots. I don’t get the grapefruit like taste of cascade hops, so I would guess that there is either a blend of hops, or other varieties were used. The finish is slightly astringent, and leaves the mouth feeling dry. There is a good body to the beer, and that does help the mouth feel a little. Overall, I would say that it is not ready to drink yet, and should improve with age. It is drinkable, but not what I had expected.
