Very dark pour with a slight brown head. Aroma of chocolate and espresso. Lots of coffee and bitter chocolate taste. Perhaps some vanilla as well. Very solid beer.

Bottled sample from the brewery. More bitter than most which is my favourite.

Bottle, via trade from paco, shared with Parksy and Jeff. Handsome walnut brown pour, thick chunky beige crown. Aroma of earthy hard roast, coffee. Classic stout flavours of hard roasted malt, bitter coffee, and dark chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel. Just exactly what I want in a stout. Medium sweetness, bitter finish. Solid.

Bottle shared by CapFlu. Dark brown, almost black. Scane head disappears without a trace. Aroma is buttery with some unpleasant coal overtones. Syrupy, slick and buttery, not very nice.

I liked this last time I had it, but that was 1997. 13 years later, here’s what we’ve got. Dark brown colour. Somewhat fudgey aroma. The palate is fudgey, chocolate with some brownie notes. The beer is a bit too dry, perhaps from the high(ish) level of alcohol. It detracts from what should be a nice, sweet, malty stout.

650ml Bottle. Pours nearly black with a tan/light brown head that hangs around for a while. A nice toasted aroma. Body is lighter than a lot of stouts, but it’s still a stout, quite refreshing actually. Bitter finish of average length. Highly recommended.

650 ml bottle from my second trade with paco. pours very dark brown with a perfect tan head. aromas of sweet dark roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, some hops, wonderful but mild. flavours are sweet malts, caramel, coffee, chocolate, and barley. not as full bodied as id like but very nicely put together. its hard to believe that this can weigh in at 7% abv. very drinkable. a good stout.

Bottle shared with tupalev. My bottle. Deep brown (almost black) with a small tan head. Nice aroma of dark roast malt and molasses. Body is a bit thin, but OK. Flavour has good roast notes off the top, some subtle coffee notes in the middle, and a slightly sour tang in the finish, with some dried fruit as well. Pretty decent stuff.

Bottle courtesy of and shared with GregClow. Nice aroma - strong dark malt, sweet. Black/very dark brown, neat little brown head. Taste is ok - tangy sweet malt, some lingering bitterness. Burnt, yet a little tangy - interesting. Full flavoured, alcohol present stout. Good.

650ml bomber pours a light-defying black into the mug....2 finger tan frothy cap with good retention and lacing. Aromas of nuts, figs, burt toast and some wet grass. Bulky body, phenominal malt spine, thick viscous mouthfeel. Not overly complex but very rich and flavorful. Big chewy oatmeal and bready tastes up front that mellow and you get the light sweetness with dried fruit, nut, anice tones, the long wet finish gives more fruity and taost flavors as the hop bittering becomes pronounced and mingles with the choclate malts. A very nice oatmeal stout every bit as good as Sam Smith’s
