3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dreadnord (319) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - MAR 2, 2012
Pours brown and murky. Despite being gentle I got a lot of sediment in the glass. Big off white head. Nose is slightly coffee and some mellow wood. A little bready. Flavor is sweet and a little hop valance comes through at the end while a long aftertaste is straight bitter. Mouthfeelis crisp yet refined.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 PatBateman81 (156) - Caserta, ITALY - JAN 29, 2012
Tap @ Karhisma Birroteca (Piedimonte Matese - Caserta, Italy). Buskers strikes back! This time an hard trial for our nice wanderer brewers: the black IPA. I’ll never be tired of repeating it, black IPA is among the most difficult styles to brew; you know, making something too IPA-oriented or too stoutish, when components aren’t tied, is really easy. So, what about Paranoid? This Black-Sabbath inspired beer comes with a generous and solid foam, frothy and white/beige. Aroma is so delicate, and gives a perfect mix between coffee, fresh hops, cocoa, coconut, citrus; have a sip, and feel a really GREAT balance. Did I say something about styles-binding before? Yeah, that’s it. Coffee, chocolate powder starts the show, surronded with a good malt presence and a medium carbonation. But, situation turns immediatly: you could feel grapefruit, citrus in general, and after bitterness surface and grow incredibly. Last long. SO long. Paid attention: this isn’t the classical hopped stout bitterness, like the Sierra Nevada Stout for instance, since the black malt character doesn’t dominate the scene. Is that of an IPA, period. Add a *fantastic and dangerous* drinkability, not the Southern Tier Iniquity blow, and you’ll get a perfect example of what a Black IPA should be. Well done guys. Well done. Go Buskers, go!!!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Mortlach (436) - Rome, ITALY - JAN 16, 2012
21/01/2012 La Tana (tap). Scura, profonda, impenetrabile, schiuma color cappuccino.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 INDASTRIA (129) - Berlin & Rome, GERMANY - JAN 16, 2012
Tap @ La Tana (roma, magliana) solid, espresso/americano coffee deep brown, almost black, color, creamy brown head with. very intense aroma of coffee, chocolate, hops, citrus (orange and grapefruits in particular). Taste of cocoa bean, coffee, hops, citrus (a lot of orange) again. The finish is damned bitter and long; really really unexpected. full mouth-feel with a cocoa powder texture. The black side remembered me more a porter than an american stout whereas the ipa one is totally dominated by its strong hoppiness and freshness, nevertheless they used only (or almost, don’t remember) English hops. Both sides are merged into a perfect, trust me, balanced beer.
A real surprise to me. i’m always skeptic about black ipas but this one is a brilliant shot.
If you know the "more brown than black IPA" by stone you can get also the concept behind the paranoid.
