Bottle, from an ethnic foodstore in Scunthorpe. Hazy gold, thin shortlived white head and low condition. Pleasant floral sweet herbal hoppiness with traces of honey and chalky yeast in the nose, quite sweet and soft in the mouth with a gentle yeastiness providing a low chalky bitterness to counter a honeyed herbal sweetness, finish is chalky yeast with more sweetness lingering.

3fourths (7063) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2013 Bottle rating. Cloudy medium-light orange, you can force a head if you pour vigorously but it dies in under a minute. First smell is a strong odor of boiled carrots and cabbage, DMS and diacetyl galore! There’s also a lot of raw grains and wort smells (light caramel syrup, grain husks, soggy bread). Has a similar grainy, raw flavor with abundant buttered carrot and some strange tropical esters and phenols. Medium body, sweet throughout, low bitterness and low acidity leave it lifeless, flabby and limp in the mouth. Drying, watery, un-firm finish. Are all Lithuanian beers this undercarbonated and (seemingly) under-fermented? I ask because the combination of sweet grains with low acid and low bitterness feels completely off, very unpalatable. Even without the obvious diacetyl and DMS this would be a plain, raw, worty grain stew of a beer.

Bottle from Nowy Polka, Cape Hill, Birmingham/Smethwick. This is weird. Pours flat. Cloudy and the colour of ginger. Tastes of ’behind the knee’ sweat, linen and bicycle seat. Also cardboard, tea and sticky malt. Elements of rubbish Bitter and smells damp. I can’t recommend this.

Fat @ Alynas, Vilnius. Mörkorange öl med stort vitt skum. Ljust bröd, lime och sötma når näsan. Fin maltsötma i smaken, med en viss bitterhet i avslutningen. Trevligt öl.

Bottle from Nowy Polka, Waterloo Road, Cape Hill, Birmingham. Nice swing top bottle and parchment style label suggesting a quality product. Fizzed a lot when poured, then settled down to a cloudy, headless, dirty orange, like supermarket ginger beer. Aroma isn’t strong but has some floral hops, some elderflower. Tastes like fizzy Oxo chicken gravy - no Sunday would be complete without some - and (again) supermarket ginger beer, a little citrus but also with a watery cardboard hops feel, like an old school English bitter. It’s ok.

larsga (5364) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 27, 2012
Small white head. Hazy yellow body. Light grainy dusty aroma with fruity herbal notes. Dry.-sweet grainy dusty mealy taste with fruity herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dry dusty strawy fruity aftertaste with long lingering herbal earthy wooden notes. Nice, unusual, and drinkable. (0.5l draft at Alynas, Vilnius.)
