2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Amber in color with an off-white head. Nose is grassy and lightly floral. Some sweet bread, grain, and apple esters. A bit of citrus peel, maybe some yeast. The flavor is sort of bland and a bit watery. Some bread and grain notes, light toast, and fruity esters. There’s a mild citrus note, some floral hops, and a fair amount of grassy bitterness.

Pretty basic beer. This isn't actually hawaiian at all. Typical pale ale really mild flavor no hop at all. A decent canned beer but pretty much a bud.

Can from Kaldi. Hey, it’s not so bad, but it’s not so interesting, but what did I expect for the cheap price and the fact that I got it from a coffee shop. Aroma is lightly hoppy, little bit of citrus, more malty. And smells a bit of beans! Taste is malt driven again, lacks a bit of sparkle. Light caramel, light citrus, light all round. Bit too sweet for me.

What a mess. Light golden pour with a whitish head. Very little aroma, overpowering sweetness on the front, in the middle, and at the end. Not even an interesting sweet, just a thin, artificial, faintly fruity sweet. Would I drink again? no.

Can, bought and shared by Parksy. Unfathomably aweful, stinky, with an artificial adjunct-preservative taste, just foul.

Smell of your typical crap beer. Really dark for a pale ale. Almost looks like pee from a very dehydrated person. Taste if strong hops and overpowering aftertaste which is not pleasant.

Bottle; poured a dark orange color with a whitish head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, bread and alcohol. Lager like flavor; sweet corn/bread and fruit. Not much positive hopping going on here. A bit boozy tasting too; weird

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Can from Kaldi Coffee store in Joyo Heiwado shopping center. Fruity nose, very ripe peaches and some small citrus presence. Cloudy orange/amber, thin off-white head. Sweet and juicy initial / some balance in mid / finish is a bit tangy, then bitter, and end with sweetness. Almost no carbonation. A bit sticky. Not exactly cloying. Maybe unattenuated and a touch flat. Fruity but somehow lifeless. Perhaps contract brew? Label says it was made in Monroe, WI.

A can from Kaldi Coffee for about 220yen which is pretty good. The can has a cool simple design listing HPA which someone told me was short for Hawaiian Pale Ale. A dark yellow pour with a crazy thick head of foam with staying power. The aroma is fruity, slightly spicy with lots of fruity ale ester notes. The flavor is caramel malts with a soft bitter finish. Thick full mouthfeel which is nice. It is a decent enough beer, though it isn’t all that much like a pale ale as it lacks any real bitterness. More like a regular ale, sweet not so cloying, ok.
