Adam Henson’s Rare Breed combines a shared passion for farming and brewing. Cotswold farmer and TV presenter Adam Henson has worked in partership with Butcombe Brewery to bring together the finest West Country ingredients - Maris Otter malting barley, aromatic Herefordshire hops and Mendip spring water, to create this distinctive, refreshing, and clean-tasting golden ale.

Cask @ The Willow Walk. The pour’s medium amber with a small bubbly white head. The nose is of golden delicious apple, some honey, bucolic straw. The taste is is sweet apple sauce, summer fruits. Plenty of sugary white bread. Mild grassy finish. The body’s watery, light. Overall, nothing special here.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - golden amber with a nice head. Nose - fruit salad and a bit grainy. Faint though. Taste - tinned apples and peaches. More biscuit malt in the background. Palate - light to medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a but astringent on the finish though.

Cask @ Ship Ashore, Willen. Golden/amber with a white head and big lacing. Pear, wheat, some astringency, hint of butterscotch/caramel in the nose. Bitter taste followed by a refreshing fruity sweetness then a bitter finish. Watery palette and not great aftertaste. Nothing special but certainly drinkable.

Fra fat på Lamb&Flag i Covent Garden, april-14sammen med Håkon: de fleste øl smaker godt i en slik atmosfære, selv en golden ale som denne. Tørr og fruktig med en lett avslutning.

Appearance: Clear amber with finger thick ivory head. Aroma: Fruity, bread and peppery. Taste: Medium bitterness, low sweet and sourness. Palate: Thick grainy texture, light body, low/average carbonation, lingering peppery, malty fruity finish. Comments: Tasty and glass lace. Rating is for cask version 3.8%.
