COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
The West Country’s favourite beer derives from pure Mendip Spring Water ... notably bitter, clean tasting, refreshingly dry, distinctive, and moreish! Made with 100% best Maris Otter Malt, together with a blend of (never divulged) traditional English Hop varieties. Butcombe’s only beer for the Brewery’s first 20 years, and now bottled to celebrate winning the Silver Medal at the Great British Beer Festival 2009.

Pours amber with a loose cream head; straightforward hoppy aroma with just a touch of farmyard; rich, chewy caramel malts, with some fresh, nettley hops and a dry finish.

(Bottle): Pours a clear dark amber with small off white head. Some caramel and earthy, grassy notes on the nose. Flavour has a subtle caramel malt base with hops, spice, pepper and floral notes. I love the bitterness on the finish, not too much but enough to give a kick.

A very commendable English bitter. Noticeably more bitter on the tongue than most. Clean medium bodied palate.

Mid amber colour with big beige lacing head. Aroma is malty and some muted floral notes. Taste starts slightly sweet with malts and caramel becoming moderately bitter and dry at the finish. Good balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I think ’middle of the road’ sums this one up - a reasonably flavoured old-fashioned English bitter. Not much to write home about, but perfectly drinkable.
