Cask at the Cricketers, Shroton; chestnut brown, clear with a creamy white head; strong malty aroma; malty taste too - toasted and a little nutty; dry and creamy mouthfeel, almost stoutlike; some earthy hops and a gentle bitter finish; a modest Christmas offering at 4.2, but together with the cosiness of the pub it did the trick in enveloping me with warmth on a misty, dreary post-festive Sunday.

Darker red brown ale, slightly clouded with a small head. Robust with an excellent fusion of malts and winter fruited hops. Medium bodied

Cask conditioned handpump Moon On The Square Northampton 20/12/12. A brown beer with a white head and lacing. A fruity aroma. Fruity in the mouth with crunchy malts. Raisins. Quite interesting flavour profile. Heading towards Christmassy. Certainly sweet. Passable.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Reddy amber with virtually no head. Loads of caramlised malt notes, heavily boiled overlaid with a tart raspberry, red currant flavour, pretty weird drinking. Not for me.

Cask, William Wygston, Wigston. Copper with a cream firm foam. Aromas are toffee and dark syrup with raisins. Light cookie dough with stewed pear and peppery spices. Weetabix with damp floral notes. Flavours are sweet malts with ripe autumn fruit. Lightly spiced with a fruity, slightly dry tea finish. Not bad.

Cask @ The Willow Walk. Tis the season for dodgy Christmas beers! The pour’s deep reddish amber with no head whatsoever. The nose is rich blackcurrant tart, berry, toffee and a bit of nut. The taste is more rich, sweet toffee. Malty indeed. Hints of twig and a bit of zesty red berry jam. Sweet. Light finish, smooth. Overall, this actually isn’t bad. Inoffensive.
