Matthew Pale Ale is brewed using local Mendip spring water and unbeatable, English, Maris Otter Malt. The beer is grounded in the versatile English Challenger hop but is given its distinctive floral taste by the American Amarillo hops added at the end of the brewing process. The beer has fresh citrus notes and a clean, dry finish. Tantalizingly fresh!

The beer was the SIBA Gold Medal Winner for its class in 2011 in its previous incarnation as our spring seasonal, Mendip Spring and we are delighted to be able to bring this great beer to you permanently as Matthew Pale Ale.

Cask at The Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 25 May 2012. Poured a clear golden colour, with a dense white head. Aroma of orange peal, toasted malt and peppery hop. Lemon zest in the flavour, with some bready malt and straw. Finish was light, with a little flowery hop and raisins.

Cask at The Antelope in Surbiton. Keeps its head nicely. Smells of summer - hay, fruits and grass. Beautifully drinkable, hints of straw and citrus with nice dry finish. Great golden ale.

Straw coloured beer with a creamy head. Mild citrus aroma and the flavour is a gentle blend of citrus fruit and hop with a floral edge. Could do with being a touch stronger in the taste but it’s crisp, refreshing and very drinkable.

Cask @ Wetherspoons, MK. Clear amber/gold, perfect white head. You can smell the Amarillo - citrus, hay, wildflowers. The taste is incredibly sweet at first, carrying the malt character. The bitter finish and aftertaste come as a welcome surprise! This beer is put together extremely well, and at only 3.8% to boot!

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; light amber pour with velvety white head, pleasant floral aroma, decent citrus hop bite with a clean bitter finish, could have a session on this.

Cask conditioned handpump Moon On The Square Northampton 14/06/12. A blonde beer with a white head and lace. A good hoppy beer. Nice sherbet notes. Lemony. Nice and fresh. The nose is particularly welcoming. Doesn’t develop those hops as much as you’d like in the mouth but it’s still tasty. Score 3.5
