COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special for J D Wetherspoon festival - October/November 2009.
This brand-new beer makes its national debut at this JDW beer festival. The use of finest malts gives this beer a reddish hue and spicy, currant flavour, balanced by a malty finish.

Tasted this in The Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in November 2009. Clear tawny in colour with a thin white head. Vague malt in the very short aroma and thin watery mouthfeel. Pale malts give a slight dessicated currant fruit note and little else. Dry woody tone in the short aftertaste actually masks the hop resins. Dry oak wood tannins continue to give a bitter resinous finish. An ok session bitter.

Cask. Mild roasted aroma. Very dark brown colour. Seems clear, red shine. Small creamy light brown colour. The flavour is roasted with a vinous, sourish touch.

What a beautiful beer. A pungent aroma precedes a smooth palate but then a real rush of taste from liquorice to chocolate to used engine oil. A real black gem. Pulled at Bar Central Wetherspoons Cardiff as part of the Worlds Biggest blah blah blah this month. Great stuff and a real change from the usual poor quality and choice at this pub and yes yes to the Worlds Biggest blah blah blah going on right now.

Half, hand pulled cask ale at Woodins Shades. Mahogany coloured body topped by a low, fawn coloured head. Slightly roasted dark malts to the nose. Dusty hops mixed with chocolate malts in flavour. Chocolate bitterness to the finish. Refreshing and easy to drink (London, 19.03.2011).

Cask at the Webb Ellis in Twickenham, pours a deep red with a fine clingy beige head, aromas of mocha, a little port wine. Full bodied and malty with plummy hints, a faint tartness, and a dryish finish with a lasting taste of bitter chocolate and roast malt. Good, though more like a red mild than a bitter.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a clearish, reddish brown with a fine, off-white head. Chocolate syrup and roasted malts on the nose. Flavor is mediocre. Some dry, roasted malts, faint cocoa, hints of plastic, some herbal hops. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Bitter chocolate and light roast on the finish with some dry, astringent bitterness. Um, not a huge fan.

Cask Handpump at the Queens Arms JDW, Winsford 31/10/2009 Malt aroma. Small cream head. Copper coloured a little rich on the palate and fruity with some bitterness in a slightly peppery lasting malt finish.

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker Street ’Sporks.
Pale amber with a thin white head. Rathe bland and lifeless. A bit of floral hop, some biscuity malt and that’s about it. Watery palate. Nice and dry in the finish. Inoffensive and drinkable but just really really dull.

Cask in the new crown, southgate. Alround rating: Caramel pale malt, bit of honey, grassy bit of herbal hop, but its on the sweetside of balance. Acht!
