Bottle:   Orangish amber, fairly clear, moderate foamy sand colored head, lacing that seems fairly sticky leaving a few rings.   Nose is quite earthy, a little soily.   Hops are on the down low.   Otherwise malty and mealy.   Subtle hop and citrusy malts on the tongue.   Remains earthy and soily, but not as much as I expected for an organic ale.   Average body and mouthfeel.   Does seem to quiet down towards the end.   Not too hoppy overall.   As expected, a bit of earthy and soily malts, but not as strong as I would have thought.   Very subdued for a Pale, given that its brewed on the west coast.   Better than expected, but still a little boring.

355mL bottle poured a light amber-orange color with small white head which left little lacing behind. Aroma of caramel and hops. Taste is predominantly hop bitterness with some malty sweetness in the background. Medium body and moderate carbonation provide an adequate mouthfeel. A decent pale ale, but there are much better out there to sample.

Elwood (1967) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - AUG 2, 2011
Serving: 12 oz. bottle. It pours a light amber orange with a decent frothy off white head. The nose is a pleasing bit of caramel, a touch of honey, light fruitiness (apple and pear), and a bit of hops. The flavor has a bit of wet dog and cardboard with the caramel, leafy but slightly stale hops, and slight fruitiness. Chewy malts up front with a fairly dry finish. Medium bodied. Okay, but I can do without those off notes in the front of the flavor profile.

Bottle, Deveney’s, Dublin. Clear dark amber pour with a fast fading thin white head. Some muted grassy hop and citrus in the nose. Slightly bland and thinnish palate. Caramel malt heavy flavour with somewhat muffled hoppage. Slight metallic tang towards the finish which lets it down. Alright, but verging on joe average.

Svesse (4389) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - OCT 17, 2009
(Draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse 68, Stockholm, 16 Oct 2009) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with grainy malt, grapefruit, citrus peel and hints of pine needles. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of grainy malt, grapefruit and citrus peel. Medium body. Refreshing and well balanced beer, dry with a generous hoppy bitterness. Very nice.
