Poured dark with a decent head, but the head was short lived . The taste was actually better than the aroma would have hinted. I got this from a health food store; I had not seen it in any local liquor/beer stores. It was amazingly good, however I doubt I would make the extra effort to get it over some of my favorite porters or stouts. It is worth the try though

Pours cola colored. No head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Lighter than expected, but nose carries through to the taste - roasted malts up front, some bitter coffee and chocolate on the finish. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a very dark brown with a small and not so well retained head.

The aroma is lots of rich chocolate, some roastiness, and a mild sweetness. This moves to a coffee kind of character as it warms.

The flavor is earthy and nicely hoppy with some mild fruit notes. The beer is mildly roasty and nicely chocolaty, the beer is sweeter than I would prefer a porter to be and as it warms it becomes a bit chalky. The more I drink it the less I like it, but it’s certainly a passable porter.

Much better than the only other Butte Creek beer I’ve had, the Organic ale. This beer avoids the stale, sourness of that offering. It has a nice, smooth body, some licorice and chocolate in the flavor and a roasted aroma.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours very murky dark reddish brown color with a huge 2-3 finger fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Good soapy lacing on the glass, with a ton of streaming carbonation. This foamed up instantly on the pour, so its probably infected. Aromas of caramel, molasses, roasted malt, raisin, chocolate, prune, toast, toffee, apple skin, grass, and herbal spiciness. Some pretty unpleasant aromas as expected after that foamy pour. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, apple, biscuit, toffee, and herbal spiciness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Unlike the aromas, the flavors are actually quite robust with good balance; no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid porter, even for being infected. Some solid flavors that are fairly robust; very smooth to drink. I had no problem finishing it at all.

It is strange that I am drinking this out of a wine glass, at a Modesto food festival. It’s an enjoyable porter but nothing extraordinary.

Poured flat and seemed thin. No head to speak of. No real aroma, either. The taste was indistinct, mild, not noteworthy in any way. But it didn’t taste bad, at least I can say that for it. I haven’t had a lot of beer labeled organic that I’ve enjoyed. Butte Creek hasn’t changed that.
