3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 FlacoAlto (3143) - Tucson, USA - OCT 25, 2004
Pours a deep brown-amber color with ruby highlights when held up to the light. It is topped by a frothy tan head. The aroma is a mix of dark concentrated fruit (raisin, prune) and a husky roasted graininess. The taste is sweet up front but moves to a fruity middle that lingers through the finish that is tinged with a roasted coffee bitterness. This beer is light and tasty. The bitterness in the finish is also from the hops as well as the dark malt.
1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Darwenus (94) - Virginia, USA - APR 21, 2012
Poured flat and seemed thin. No head to speak of. No real aroma, either. The taste was indistinct, mild, not noteworthy in any way. But it didn’t taste bad, at least I can say that for it. I haven’t had a lot of beer labeled organic that I’ve enjoyed. Butte Creek hasn’t changed that.

Simple, but well made porter. No head retention and extremely high carbonation. No complexity.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 reebtogi (2161) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 7, 2011
650mL bottle poured almost black in color with a modest off-white head with good retention and some fine lacing. Aromas of roasted malts and chocolate and a hint of coffee. Taste is roasted malty sweetness with chocolate and some coffee with some hoppy bitterness in the finish. Nicely balanced flavors with medium body and soft carbonation. A very drinkable porter.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 J_man (416) - Tustin, California, USA - AUG 17, 2011
Nice roasted, chocolate malt aroma along with side notes of iron and saltwater air. Beautiful crystal clear, medium/dark brown with a deep ruby color topped by a nice and persistent tan head. Flavor is very light with light charred grain and coffee balanced by a milk chocolate flavor and sweetness. Some of that minerality in the aroma shows up here, but it’s not pronounced. There is some earthy hop bitterness here, but this is mainly malt driven. Body is smooth and lightly creamy. Finishes medium dry with a lasting milk/dark chocolate taste. This is very much an English style porter, not the big, heavy porters we generally make here in the States, and Butte Creek has done a nice job with it here.

12oz bottle that has been in my fridge for probably almost 2yrs. Pours almost black clear brown with nice looking off white head. Nose is faint, mostly a mild roast and carob is about all I am getting. Roasted nutty malt, some coffee, carob, but all are really mellow and not supper assertive. Some vegital hints going on and just lacking in some depth of the flavor for me.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 paultheguru (636) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 29, 2010
A: snifter. deep, rich mahogany color. light tan head that was ridiculously high, about four fingers in width. good retention though and a large amount of lacing.
S: some coffee and toffee from the roasted malts. Almost has a funky aroma, some sourness. I am now thinking this is an infected bottle.
T: good roasted malts...coffee, toffee and some chocolate. Wonderful flavors, to bad it was a bad bottle.
M: way too much carbonation. it has a moderate mouthfeel and body, but the damn infection just killed this tasting.
D: has potential, but this batch was infected, which is common for me with organic beers.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 larsniclas (4360) - Billdal, SWEDEN - AUG 5, 2010
Sampled at SBWF09
Dark brown. Small tan head.
Chocolate in the aroma.
More like coffee, or leftovers after brewing coffee in the flavour.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Wiseblood (700) - Clarksville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 5, 2010
Dark brown with a light tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, cocoa, and some molasses. Flavors of heavy roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and bitterness. Smooth and easy to drink, but a little thin for the style.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 beernovice39 (2088) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 4, 2010
Deep red pour with thick mega huge tan head. Scent is sorgum molasses. Taste is light for a porter, malts and a hop finish.
