Chalky, chocolate, malty American brown ale aroma. Clipart label, milky film that clings to the side of the glass and turns into legs, fairly dark brown, pretty clear. Orange pith bitter, cereal nuttiness, coniferous/herbal overtones, ABV is reasonably masked. Strong pepper-bitter aftertaste on the front of the tongue, herbal in the high palate, pine-pudding mouth. My overall impression is that this is an Imperial American Brown.

Bomber from Whole Foods (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear reddish copper color with a one finger white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of booze, caramel, toffee, raisins, hints of dark ripe fruit, molasses. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of phenol, caramel, honey, toffee, light floral hops. Generally medium body with a pleasing malty finish. This one smells better than it tastes.

On draught at Bailey’s Taproom CellarFest 2013. 2007 vintage. Not sure if it’s been aged too long, but it is more bitter and not as satisfying as other barleywines. OK overall though.

22oz Bottle pours out a amber topped with a nice off white cream head. A nice aroma of hops and sweetness. tast is a little thin. Some bitterness and some caramel sweetness. This one was a lot better than I was thinking it would be.

22 oz bottle from Pizza Port’s bottle shop. A crystal clear mahogany is for the color while a small patch of head and slight lacing will occur. In the nose, a dark malt and delicate sweetness carries the aroma for a well induced scent. The flavor is mildly hoppy and sweet with caramel but nothing special or anything I’d like to taste again.

Poured a slightly hazed amber color with a small mostly white head. The aroma was malty, sweet and fruity with light citrus hops. It had a kind of sweet cherry aroma. The flavor was sweet and fruity with earthy notes and stiff bitterness. Medium to full bodied and fairly warming. The name is close.

OK. Here’s an official ticker’s beer. I bought this 22ozer at Bevmo for $4.99, because I want another >10% rating, and because I love strong barleywines. I used to avoid buying beers with ratings below 3.7, but here I am. Pours with a medium head of medium bubbles, which fade very fast, leaving a very clear dark amber liquid. Some malty and higher alcohol heat in the aroma. Certainly needs some aging to mellow it out. Some early hop bitterness. A little sharp and young, but still nice. Pretty drinkable considering the ABV. Leans a little dry. 3.2-3.3.

RedSox2004 (1295) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - JUL 5, 2008
Pours hazy mahogany red with a decent head that left a strong film and ok lacing. Aromas of spices, caramel, brown sugar and apple. Taste is maltiness for the most part, but plenty of carmelized sugar and alcohol as well. Hops come in a bit at the end. Nice beer, but the alcohol is strong, and I’m thirsty.

HogTownHarry (6126) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JUL 11, 2008
Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy, gregclow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. Hazy deep orange pour, average frothy beige head. Papery malt aroma with dry slightly stale resin hop bitterness, a hint of dry wood. Sharp, bitter, boozy taste, orange zest and dry resin bitterness - a long, huge dry bitter finish. Average body, stinging carbonation, dryly acidic and astringent, long grapefruit pith linger. Not all that bad.
