COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This stout beer pays tribute to the Butternuts Brewery’s former life as a dairy farm. It’s a more drinkable version of the Stout breed than its heavy, boorish and smelly European sisters. We use lactose sugar for body and mouthfeel; not too strong, not too viscous at 4.9% abv. Unlike a true bovine it has a malty, roasty aroma and a dry finish but no tail or teats, and leaves no unsightly cow pies laying around the yard for you to step in.

Can in LIC. Pours dark brown/black with off white head. Nose and taste of milk sugar, lactose, cocoa, chalk and vanilla. Lightly toasted grain. Light bodied.

Can at The Lardbelly in New York City. Not a bad beer, medium roast stout with creamy smooth body. Mild, but some tasty notes.

Can. Pours a flat black body with a small fizzy light brown head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is pretty decent, nicely chocolaty with a lactose sweetness and a roasted malt base. A little bit of nuttiness and burnt notes. The flavor starts out pretty decent, slightly sweet, rather chocolaty, nice roast notes. Things go a tad awry on the finish though, it comes across a bit burnt and acrid with a little bit of a rubber note. They’re fairly minimal though, so it really doesn’t ruin the whole experience. Guess ya just have to drink it faster to keep the finish short. Lighter bodied with a little cling to the back end. Soft gentle carbonation. I wasn’t expecting great things from this one, but this wasn’t bad.

Not bad for coming out of a can. Aroma Is coffee, toasted malt. Dark black, frothy white head. Taste is a bit overly acidic. Some chalk.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2014 Six months later and I open my second can. A completely different experience. The beer feels thicker, with a nice aroma of dry stout. Dry, but creamy. Tart chocolates on the flavour. I like it and I wonder how in this world I had an experience like this below...My initial rating: Pouring cola-like in body and head. Not much of an aroma (not a bad scent either), but plenty of roasts (and coffee!) on the flavour. Not silky or thick-bodied enough. Too watery and too much carbonation, unfortunately, for a milk stout, in spite of the well-spirited presentation.

12 oz. can from the discount bin at Green’s. Black pour, with a thin, beige head. The aroma is chocolate syrup, coffee, burnt toast, and light caramel. The flavor is sweet, and unfortunately sour. Medium body, sticky, and acidic. Overall, this is a overly sweet, acerbic, and unpleasant stout.

Surprisingly decent considering the presentation but then I should have learned teh beer science of always trusting a ghetto-looking can over a flashy label. I’m assuming the moo means it’s a milk stout, although the can also mentions it’s a farmhouse ale. Not sure where this idea comes from but once again - let’s not trust the can. Pours black with a mocha head. Roast malt aroma with some nut. Light to medium bitter finish. Can from Beers of the World.

Pours cola brown with an aroma of lactose, vanilla, roasted malt, and chocolate. Sweet flavor with milk, chocolate, and vanilla with some roasted malt and coffee. Thinner consistency for a stout. Nice beer.

Pours from can a cola brown with one and a half finger cinnamon color head. Looks great in glass. Nose mostly of malt. Taste of malt, some bitterness and some coffee. Not great structure, and lacks some of the sweetness in other milk stouts. So- so. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz can, shared by Caterwaul. Very dark brown color. Good, bigger, kind of airy light brown head. Good lace. Medium body. Soft, stronger carbonation. Stronger, kind of effervescent carbonation - odd for a stout, but still nice. More dry finish. Dark bitter chocolate, nice toasty, moderate to stronger roast, light burnt malt aroma. Some good herbal hoppiness to this. Moderate to stronger bitter taste, mild to minimal sweet. Good, hoppy, bitter stout, albeit maybe a little thin.
