This stout beer pays tribute to the Butternuts Breweryís former life as a dairy farm. Itís a more drinkable version of the Stout breed than its heavy, boorish and smelly European sisters. We use lactose sugar for body and mouthfeel; not too strong, not too viscous at 4.9% abv. Unlike a true bovine it has a malty, roasty aroma and a dry finish but no tail or teats, and leaves no unsightly cow pies laying around the yard for you to step in.

Backlog rating. Keg at the EoE, London. It pours a dark brown color with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, lactose, red berries and cocoa. Taste has more milk chocolate, lactose, red berries and roasted wood. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, ok sweet stout

Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a brown-black color with a large creamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty, vanilla and coffee. The flavor was bitterish yet semi sweet with lactose, toasty malts, malted milk and vanilla. Turns dryish on the long finish. Medium body. Ok.

Iím surprised how low this beer got rated on here, itís kind of disappointing. This a really awesome stout. Big notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee in the aroma, with a subtle roasty coffee. Thick but not syrupy, lots of chocolate, caramel and roastyness. Really tasty beer and for the abv you wont get totally crushed. Awesome stout, Iím glad I found it.

Crisp like a porter with a light mouthfeel from the lactose backing. Not an amazing stout, but still a very drinkable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark apperance, near black. Tan head, slick mouthfeel. The roasted chocolatey character undermined by its weak acidity. Picked up in Asheville in 2015.

Pours black, with brown fluffy head and nice head.retention. the aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, some coffee. Not strong. The flavor is chocolate then coffee, with earthy at the rear. The palate is heavier than would have though.

Pour on tap at District 13, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, roast, some dirty earthy notes with a hint of lactose, slight coffee. Taste was a smooth mix of cocoa, coffee, and roast, some slight earthy notes into a bit of dark fruity notes, finishing fairly roasted, slightly sweet.

12 oz can, courtesy of corm44 on BeerAdvocate. Thanks!! The pour is a medium to dark brown with a ruby showing through with a decently thick light tan head that falls down quickly leaving no lace. The aroma is is sweet. There's a lot of lactose up front. A good roasty malt character really dominates the nose. Small amount of cocoa on the back end. The flavor is all roast for the first half. A light sweetness pokes through, and then there is nothing. The mouthfeel is really thin. Dark water. The carbonation helps a little, but it's just really thin. The aftertaste is a little roasty with a touch of sweetness, and vanishes quickly. A very light sweet stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
