COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This stout beer pays tribute to the Butternuts Brewery’s former life as a dairy farm. It’s a more drinkable version of the Stout breed than its heavy, boorish and smelly European sisters. We use lactose sugar for body and mouthfeel; not too strong, not too viscous at 4.9% abv. Unlike a true bovine it has a malty, roasty aroma and a dry finish but no tail or teats, and leaves no unsightly cow pies laying around the yard for you to step in.

12oz can pours black with a brownish red head. Aromas of chocolate malt some slight coffee a bit of vanilla and some roastyness to it. Flavor is balanced slightly bitter and roasted but also sweet and smooth. Body is medium and semi-creamy. Finishes a bit sweet

355ml can kindly shared by Finn. A bubbly, fawn coloured head with fine duration and lacing rings down the glassware. Near black body. Roasted dark malty aromas, hints of chocolate. Taste of oatmeal and dark chocolate followed by a touch of coffee roasted bitterness. Medium bodied with a rounded mouth feel. Likable (Tromsø 24.08.2016).

On can from Systembolaget Strømstad. Pitch black color, good offwhite foam. Medium aroma intensity; choclate milk, light coffee, roasty with some leather and vanilla . Medium body & complexity. Balances well. Enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep brown, low tan head. Aroma chocolate, dark caramel, umami. Taste sweer, roasty and pinch of salt. Very assertive in roastiness. Spoiled by high carbonation, finish with unpleasant fruity esters - which is inappropriate in this style. Not very nice

Can at Hopyard, april 26th 2016. Black body with a brown head. Aroma of cocoa, lactose, earthy hops, mild coffee. Taste is sweet and sticky, chocolate, balanced by a gentle note of roast, with raisins towards the finish. Pretty sweet stuff, enjoyable, but may be a victim of it’s low abv.

Can. Assertively roasty, coffee, chocolatey. Mostly bitter, not very milk stouty. Light earthy hoppy flavour. Moderate hops bitterness. Good stout.

Can, thanks to brewtalita. Black colour, very quickly falling beige head. Aroma is quite weak. roasted and some caramel. Taste is roasted, a bit burnt, caramel, some nutty notes in roasted aftertaste. Very overcarbonated.

Can via trade from notes. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, thinner body, just ok.

Svart med høyt beige skum. Lukter korn, havre, kaffe og mørk sjokolade. Middels til lett. Lite bitterhet. Noe kaffebitterhet er det. Lett søtlig, sjokolade, noe kandis og salt lakris. Middels lang.

355ml can. Jet black colour with sma,, to average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of toffee, coffee, a touch of liquorice and malt lozenge. Taste is slightly dry, roasty dark malty, minimally metallic, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, hints of liquorice, subtle hints of lactose, bitter hoppy finish. Not much sweetness, but quite beefy and variegated. Definitely underrated.

Can @ The Butcher Block. Not sure why the low rating, i’m very picky about my beer, and this was delicious! Not the richest but it was heavy on the malty, dark chocolate & roast flavors. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
