3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 JahNoth (1039) - Rochester, New York, USA - DEC 1, 2006
Sour, malty aroma. Nice deep amber in color with a thick, fluffy white head. Watery, sliightly roasted malt aroma, fairly sweet, with some bitterness to carry it along and slight bitter finish. This is a real nice crossover beer and would make a great part beer, but the 3 is deserved among us geeks. BTW this would be a great beer for, you know, folks that we all know.

Can, part of a 6-pack ($6), Party Source, Syracuse NY. App.: med.-amber with orangey hues and a fairly sparse white head. Aroma: a bit of hops comes through, but it ain’t much (citrusy, piney). Subdued sweet, malty notes too (caramel, toffee) and a bit of bread. Palate: med.-low carbonation, med. body. Flav.: A touch of sweetness, a little of the hops and malt come through, VERY faint bitter finish. This would make a GREAT party beer: cheap, in cans, ice-breaker name/label and not hard to drink at all. Oink!!

12 oz. can. I bought a six-pack of this on a whim and when I got home, wondered what I was thinking. I actually wanted the can for my beer can collection and was less interested in the beer. I was worried when I first opened the can because there was no release of gas from the can at all. It was more like opening a can of iced tea than a beer. My worries were dispelled when I poured the beer into my pint glass and out flowed a clear, deep reddish amber brew with a moderate head and no lacing. Pleasant aroma of malt. Flavor was also malt along with a touch of hops bitterness at the finish. Thankfully, a pleasant surprise.

Can. Pours a clear golden-orange with an average size creamy off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt and a hint of spices. Flavour of sweet malt with a hint of fruit and spices and a light bitter finish. Light bodied. Nowhere near as bad as I feared, it’s decent enough -- I could easily drink a pint of this.

Dark amber with a cream lace head. very malty aroma, a little spicy. Flavor is malty sweet and slightly spiced. Body is quite watery but it makes it very easy drinking.

Can. I tried this about a year ago and thought it tasted like stable shavings. Thought I’d try it again since it sounds like they changed the recipe. Poured a clear amber with a thin, deteriorating head. Grainy aroma with some peppery and grassy notes, a bit like rocket/ arugula. Flavor still had a bit of that barnyard sweet-oat horsefeed character, but with a weird trace of mustard or HP sauce. Palate thin and a little fizzy. I think it’s better the second time around, and there are certainly worse canned six packs for roughly the same price, take a dollar, but this is basically one to pass over.

The Can is funny as Heck. Never poured it from Can (thats why it’s in a can) some pale ale taste but there still was a tin taste to go with it. Reminds me of a wanna be Pale Ale, but just falls short all over

Can sample at Union Beer Trade Tasting, NYC. Reddish-amber with a small head. Aroma is somewhat muted, with mild herbal hops that build as it warms. Flavour has a good malt/hop balance, with a hint of tobacco, and some sneaky bitterness in the finish. Didn’t think much of it at the first taste, but as I worked through the rather generous sample, it turned out to be a nice little beer. I gotta wonder if they’ve improved the recipe given the harsh reviews it was getting up until a couple of months ago.

Can (12oz). Rating #1750. Such awesome can art (two pigs about to do a gleeful jumping double high-five - porkslap, get it?) almost deserves a good rating ... but let’s sample it anyway. Dead can-pop (like NesTea), a lively pour yielding a deep clear copper look and a very large lasting foamy beige head, which for some reason doesn’t appeal to me; odd. Aroma - very strange, reminded me of mint leaves, root beer, rhubard and celery - very floral/vegetal - not BAD, per se, but odd, almost like some of those veggie-nazi all-organic health juice concoctions they sell for outrageous prices. Taste - well there really isn’t much - a vague shadow of the herbal/veggie bitterness promised in the nose - there’s faint cheap malt character, and hiding in the background something like corn, no much alcohol - just weird, slightly bitter, long weak linger and aftertaste ... incredibly thin bodied, pretty much no carbonation, a bit of papery astringency; "Farmhouse Ale"? Yeah, made down on the farm, cheaply, and if you want a beer that tastes pretty much nothing like a beer, look here.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 IMtheOptimator (1161) - Bethel, Connecticut, USA - SEP 27, 2006
12oz can. Poured a clear effervescent amber with a small fizzy off-white head. Aroma of pink grapefruit, caramel, some butterscotch... rather sweet and floral. Flavor is lightly hoppy with some toffee and caramel, rather salty. Long bitter toffee finish that is rather biting on the tongue, which when combined with the saltiness feels like you’ve bitten into a stalk of celery. Body feel s a little too flat and creamy for the style. This isn’t great, or even good, but it IS better than raw sewage, which by transitivity makes it better than many macros in a can.
