1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 wheresthepath (1083) - - JUN 8, 2008
[Cask at the Jolly Angler, Reading] A strong kick of citrus, but over-the-top bitterness soon obliterates everything in its path. Very dry, too. One for the IPA crowd, or the extreme IBU-loving Americans, but not for me I’m afraid - one of the very few times in my life I’ve actually been unable to finish my pint. Wish I’d asked the barman for a sample before I committed myself to this!

2/IV/2012 - on cask @ Edgar Wallace (London) - BB: n/a (2012-312)
Clear orange to light beige beer, no head. Aroma: bit nutty, little cheesy (french cheese), buttered toast, little malt sweetness. MF: carbon, medium to light body. Taste: little fruity in the start, some peaches and pineapples, then bitter hops. Aftertaste: some toast, citrus, bit of piny bitterness, pretty boring.

Cask - The Southampton Arms, London. Poured a clear copper-amber colour with an almost non-existant loose white head. Crisp & delicate with some grassy hop. Perhaps slightly floral too on the nose. Some grain, butter, lemon & pale malts throughout. Livened the palate but a bit dull flavour-wise, especially after some pretty full-on beers beforehand. Firmish mouthfeel, mostly soft carbonation & a short & soft bitterness on a light body. Not exactly bad but I couldn’t get into it.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Amber with a loose off-white head; citrus aroma, with perhaps a touch of elderflower; tangy citrus flavour and then fresh green hops giving a sharply bitter finish.

A Mes rate. Gravicask at GBBF. Dirty yellow gold with no head. Faint citric sourness and some old hoppy notes. Mainly ruined by and overbearing note of something I can only describe as ’old man’. Sorry.

Cask@GBBF 2009.
Golden color, small white head. Kind of sour-yeasty-citrusy aroma. Light citrusy hoppy flavor. Lingering citrus acidic aftertaste. Lots of taste for 3.5% beer.

Cask in the market porter. Alround rating: Pale malt is hidden by bitterness, the floral grassy lightly pine hop is good but a bit grassy as time goes on. Good stuff.
