Cask; top two thirds look ruby, bottom third amber - maybe the pub lighting; thin white head; malty aroma; taste is sweetish malt and stalky hedgerow fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant; perhaps a little liquourice; moderate bitter finish with some hop character; it may ’only’ be a 4.0% brown bitter, but it has enough character to avoid the dreaded third ’b’ and be a pleasant drink.

Cask, handpump at The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon, pub that is run by Peter Fowler (ex Pitsop Brewery) 14.01.11 Surprised that I hadn’t rated this however this seems to be the case. I think this was more amber than golden, and with a nice slim white head, in fact it looked superb. Taste was jolly decent, nice fruity bite and decent stabbing bitterness, lacking a bit in the hoppiness department otherwise a very decent session beer. A6 A5 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5
