COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy amber ale, brewed with a complex mash of Marris Otter pale malt, Rye, Caramalt and Wheat. A shed-load of American hops provide a delightful marmalade / citrus bitterness, well balanced by the sweetness of the malt, whilst delivering a charcteristic peppery Rye flavour.

Bottle @ home thx to benzai. Clear-ish amber colour with a small white head. Smells hops, grapefruit, fresh, malts. Tastes hoppy, malts, some grapefruit, fresh.. Quite lovely. Body is nice for a 4.3% beer, good carbo.

500ml bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Hazy amber colour a bit dirty with a lasting off white head. Rich American hop aroma. It’s a smooth American pale ale more than an amber I would say. Yes some richness from the malt and a touch of spicyness from the rye, but more an APA. But I’d had chorizo for dinner which affected my initial palate and in fact the more I drink it the more the spicy rye comes through. Yes some earthyness. Like a lot of Buxton beers it’s something I can see me sat in a pub in Derbyshire drinking a lot of. It’s extremely likeable with no out of kilter flavours. Well balanced. Good condition. Nice earthy American style beer.

Fra fat på Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak 6 Nov 12. Gyldenbrun. Ikke skum. Ser ut som juice. Beskjeden aroma av syrlig frukt. Smaken er lett fruktig. Mer syrlige bær. Avslutter tørt, syrlig & bittert.

Pours a gorgeous amber with a cloudy haze. Disappointing aroma. Medium body, fizzy, with orange bitter, citrus notes. Coats the inside of my mouth with an orange bitter kick. More earthy than I was expecting

Bottle. Hazy golden brown with an off white head. Aromas are toffee with floral pine and spiced oranges. Earthy with woody aftershave and pithy grapefruit. Hints of marzipan with light smoke. Flavours are woody and floral with bready yeast and bitter pine and grapefruit. Earthy and spicy with underlying toffee and chocolate. Resinous lemon with a peppery, dry finish. Very nice.

On tap at Euston Tap, London. Slightly dusty-looking amber pour, flecked with sediment and topped by a nice silky head. Nose is very inviting, soft pale malts, a strap of sweet toffee, healthy citric hops. Full, luxuriant mouthfeel. Taste is quite good, as it’s here that the bite of the rye comes in as an elegant counterpoint. Really nice variation on the hoppy red style.

Half, cask at Southampton Arms. Clear, golden brown body. Bubbly surface. Poor lacing. Smell of leafy hops and caramel malts. Spiced hops and mid-sweet malts to the taste buds. Oily bitter finish. Alright (London, 06.11.2012).

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Slightly hazy amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops, grapefruit and passionfruit, light malty, not very outspoken. Flavour is light sweet, light spicy bitter rye, typical English malt and yeast, grainy, grapefruity hoppy bitter finish. Light-bodied. OK, but expected a bit more from Buxton.

Bottle at home. Hazy copper pour, foamy off-white head. Aroma of spicy hops, some caramel, floral hops, grapefruit, resin and nuts. Flavor is quite bitter and heavily hopped. Decent body for this ABV. Well balanced and well drinkable. Great brew.
