Axe Edge, our 6.8% IPA is our flagship ale, our most decorated in terms of awards won, and probably our most talked-about beer. It’s an English take on the American style of IPA - Big, bold and hoppy. The flavours are simple - it’s full of tropical fruit notes, and the aromas are fresh and vibrant. There’s a lot of malt character in there too, and its rather bitter and refereshing. We think it’s delicious, hope you do to.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence, Brockley. Dark amber pour with a white head. Aromas of pineapple, citrus, tropical fruit and pine. Bitter citrus hop flavours. Quite a bitter tingle on the tongue. Long bitter finish.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Kittys. 20130103) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, black currant leaves, tangerine, sweetness and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, pine, grass, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, hoppy and bitter. Nice Engish IPA with American twist. Don’t pour the sediment in the glass. It ruins the beer.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham. Gentle nose with spruce, citrus, light spice, some lychee and mango. Pours a bit muddy but that’s my fault. Flavour is full of zesty tropical fruit - more mangos and lychees, kiwi, papaya - and has a little bit of sweet malt as well. The whole is balanced with a gentle underlying bitterness that finishes long and thirst-quenchingly. Very nice.

Just an IPA. Pale yellow body with a minimal white head. Citrus, grapefruit and floreal aroma. Taste is pretty similar.

15/12/2012 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Bevuta a Birre Sotto l’Albero. Dorata, paglierino, lievemente torbida, schiuma bianca molto abbondante e persistente. Corpo medio, carbonazione buona. Deludente.

Cloudy deep faded yellow to look at. Nice froth dense head which leaves waves of lacing. Beaucoup de ripe bitter bittersweet grapefruit draped with a wrap of passionfruit. light floral quality in there too. Very likable but Cromarty AKA IPA it ain’t.

Aroma: Very hoppy. Huge tropical fruit aroma of mango and lychee. Subtle biscuity malt notes, too.

Appearance: Murky amber body with tiny yeast particles floating around. Large off-white head that holds really well. Light carbonation. Excellent lacing.

Taste: Lovely, fruity flavours of lychee and grapefruit. The biscuity malt supports it really well - great balance. The alcohol is well hidden. Gentle bitter finish.

Palate: Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation.

Overall: One of the finest IPAs I’ve tasted. Tastes like a cross between the fruity hops of Brewdog’s Hardcore IPA and a yeasty Kernel IPA. Delicious.

500ml bottle @ Kitty’s, Helsinki

Pours dark yellow with a small head. Aroma of floral hops, fruits, lemon, pineapple and exotic notes. Taste is hoppy and fruity with notes of floral hops, citrus and pineapple. Finish is quite hoppy with hints of fruits and sopu notes. Nice, quite hoppy and well balanced IPA.

Flaska @Man in the moon. Fingerhögt skum som snabbt avtar. Bärnstensfärgad, ofiltrerad vätska. Passionsfruk och aprikos tillsammans med grape och hint av vindruvor på slutet. Tunn smak. Mild. Saknar beska.

Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2012. Pours a clear and light golden beer with a white head. The aroma is malt and hops with melon and peach. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is bitterness. Overall a good beer.
