Axe Edge, our 6.8% IPA is our flagship ale, our most decorated in terms of awards won, and probably our most talked-about beer. It’s an English take on the American style of IPA - Big, bold and hoppy. The flavours are simple - it’s full of tropical fruit notes, and the aromas are fresh and vibrant. There’s a lot of malt character in there too, and its rather bitter and refereshing. We think it’s delicious, hope you do to.

Cask handpump at BBF’12. Clear light amber colour, no head. Aroma is nice hoppy, grapefruit, loads of citrus, passion fruit. Flavour is very leafy, rotten leaves, green leaves, some citrus and grapefruit, grapes, medium sweet malty, bitter finish. Light bodied, flat. I think (and hope) this was off, I had really high hopes for this beer, as everything else from these guys is just great. Hope to rate the bottled version anytime soon.

Draught @ Borefts 12. Clear yellow-golden color, small to medium sized white head. Smell and taste sticky, pine, resin, hops and medium bitterness. Low bodied though, and also low carbonation which frankly is a bit disappointing.

Draught @ Borefts 12. Clear golden yellow to orange colour with a small white head. Smells hops, grapefruit, fruity, apricot, sweet, lovely. Tastes fucking bitter, hops, grapefruit, fruity, fresh. Too bad there’s no carbo, medium body.

Cask by air pressure at Inn Deep, Glasgow - deep golden, medium white head, served too cold, citrus hop on the nose, grapefruit, smooth, strong citrus aftertaste

Great beer. Bitter, but full bodied with sweet malt in the back. Hops, plants, vegetables, dried fruit. Even the smell is complex.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2012 Hazy orange colour. Huge juicy aroma of pineapple, peach and grapefruit. Tastes as hoppy as it smells, with caramel notes rounding it off. Lingering, spicy bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly oily. Wonderful IPA.

Bottle courtesy of Cotteridge wines drank at home; as soon as I popped the cap on this I knew I was in for a hop treat. Pours a cloudy orange, this is a close approximation of an American IPA. Bravo Buxtons! I want more now!

Quite the hop bomb, and quite tasty at that. What is great is that Buxton did not forget the malts--the sweet malts add a strong backbone to the undeniable tropical fruit blast.

My personal fave of all the UK brewer's interpretations of the US IPA. Amazing aroma and mouthfeel. Would be much further up the IPA charts on here if it was more readily available outside the UK. Despite what it says in the bottle I prefer it chilled rather than at cellar temperature. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
