4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large beige head, which lasts very well and leaves good lacing. Kiwifruit, grapefruit and lemongrass hops mix with milk chocolate, black coffee and liquorice to create the aroma. Potent lemongrass, kiwifruit and melon hops up front give way to smooth milk chocolate and mild coffee in the mid-palate. Liquorice comes in at the finish, and there is a lemongrass hops aftertaste. This is a superbly balanced and extremely enjoyable black IPA.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask @ Euston Tap (Greater London). Brown with a small ring of beige foam and intense lacing. Aroma of liquorice, fruity notes, roasted malt and pine. Taste is slightly sweet with liquorice, fruity notes, roasted malt and light/moderate bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Dry finish. Good Black IPA. I usually don’t like beers where liquorice is present, but in this case the balance it’s not overwhelming and the balance is still good.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
At a tasting, thanks tom, stable creamy, bubbly beige head, dark brown colour, not completely opaque, citrusy aroma with roasted coffee and a touch of leather, flavour of roasted coffee, toasted bread and dark malt, empathic but mellow bitterness. Very good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom L. 6%. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Aroma of fruity hops, candies, licorice and a bit of roastiness. Bittersweet roasty flavor, a bit candy-ish, with some licorice a coffee hint, fruity hops and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Interesting.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black color with nice creamy head, lacing glass. Lovely aroma, very hoppy. Grapefruits, pines, resins, tropical fruits, blackcurrant - smooth chocolate, roasted malts in background. Taste is bitter. Velvet and oily texture. Notes of grapefruits, pines, resins, citrus, grass. Delicate hints of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts in the background. Excellent, very drinkable and tasty beer. With eyes closed, it tastes like a pale version of the IPA.

Grifo. Vaso Shaker @ Freiburg (Barcelona). Color negro y espuma bronceada. Corona cremosa y algodonada.
On-tap. Shaker glass @ Freiburg (Barcelona). Black color & tan head. Creamy & rocky foam. Roasted, burnt & caramel malt aromas. Roasted, sweet & creamy upfront swept it out by sharp bitterness. Medium to light body. Moderate carbonation. Oily to watery texture. Bitter & burnt touches in the middle but cloying sweetness is felt as well. Licorice hues in a long finish. Slight citric & piney aftertaste. Hops & malts could be better balanced since I can´t feel my tongue!!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Ok. Hops and roasty malt aren’t super prominent here. Pours mahagony without much head or lacing. Finishes medium bitter with a palate that gets fleshed on on the aftertaste better than the initial sip. Some dark chocolate. Tap at Churchkey.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 10C. Black with an inch of beige head. Aroma of gooseberries, grass clippings, mocha, dark berries. Carbonation is fairly high, body is medium. Sweetish at first with lots of Kiwi tropical and grassy notes, grapefruit, some dark sugars. Dryish, fairly bitter and a tad ashy at the end. Vibrant and cheerful.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: dark brown, or almost black with a medium sized tan head that stays very long. Nice lacing. I don’t like the sediment floating in the glass throughout drinking.
Aroma: not very intense, with hints of roastiness and tropical fruits. Imperial Black from Buxton had much better aroma than this one.
Taste: I’m not sure, but I think something’s wrong here. This doesn’t taste like an american black ale. It lacks the hoppiness, instead there’s a lot of roastiness and coffee plus that burnt aftertaste plus medium but lasting and rather unpleasant bitterness. Dry finish.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, low carbonation.
Overall: not a bad beer, but I guess this wasn’t the best batch. Bottled on 7-01-2014. Well, I’ll try this one again, but not any time soon.
