500ml bottle Cotteridge Wines B30. This Black IPA is different to others I have tried. There is hop bitterness, however hop taste is subdued.

Bottled at O’Connor’s, Uppsala. Near black, small head. Aroma of coffee, gooseberry and pear. Mid dry with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Licorice and coffee, tropical fruits, gooseberry and black currant. Mid bitter finish. Nice.

[500ml bottle at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe] Black with a large beige head and a light fizz. VERY hop-led, with loads of pine and some lime. A light hint of coffee is the only hint of the malts here. Hefty bitterness. Possibly rather unbalanced if truth be told, but enjoyable nonetheless.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Dark brown in colour, with a tight, off-white head and moderate carbonation. Aroma of pine, berry fruits, fruit cake and orange peel with plenty of grassy hop. Flavour had tropical fruit, some slightly bready, sweet malts, more pine and a lingering dryish finish. excellent.

Cask at Holyrood 9A. Slightly reddish black/brown pour, fluffy off-white head. Liquorice, red fruits, dark chocolate malts on the nose. Lovely rich flavours, liquorice, dark chocolate, juicy berry hops, slight spice, long resinous drying finish. Lovely.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On cask at Euston Tap. Pretty much the little brother of the Imperial Black IPA, as I was expecting. Poured a very, very deep red colour, almost black but with plenty of light penetrating with an off white head. Smells lightly of hops and citrus fruits. Tastes of malts, grapefruit, pineapple and a hoppy bitterness, quite sweet. Lovely hoppy finish, nice mouthfeel, medium bodied, light carbonation. Very good beer, though a notch below Imperial Black IPA..

Very dark brown in appearance with a decent frothy tan head. Excellent lacing follows.
Lightly roaste malt on the nose, biscuit, dark sugar, fruit and pine.
Hops in the taste, pine kernels, licqourice, bitter grapefruit and a little chocolate undertone.
Medium bodied with moderate carbonation lending to a dry finish.
Decent black IPA.

On cask @ Craft Beer Co. London. Deep dark ruby in color, and it has a small quickly islandiny bubbly beige head. Low on the aroma at first, but some mild roastiness and chocolate arises here. Not much more actually. Perhaps a bit one dimentional, but still quite pleasant. Lot’s more in the taste! Good strong bitterness, soft roasted touch that’s lingering for a long long time in the mouth. Some chocolate paper as well. Easy drinking and really tasty! 21.07.2012

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Cask. Dark berries and citrus fruits in the nose and taste. A little bit of coffee, toffee, toast, nuts. Like a scaled down version of their Imperial Black.
