Black Rocks is a Black IPA. It is very dark in colour, yet has many characteristics of an India Pale Ale. Late mash additions provide the colour without the harsher, roasted flavours of the dark malts. The beer has a blackcurrant aroma and flavours of liquorice and pithy grapefruit

Cask at CBC, London. Pours clear, red-brown with a creamy, tan head. Nose holds lots of sweet grapefruit and restrained roast. Medium to big sweet flavor with lots of grapefruit, pineapple, orange and mango, blended with a sturdy roasted malt character, pine and darkened grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Sticky, resinous finish with dark toast and grass, more grapefruit, burnt pine and dark citrus. Just an overall super black IPA. Excellent.

330ml bottle from Beer Ritz. Has a lovely citrus aroma that hovers above the glass with a frosty freshness. Smooth, dark body with some lovely dark malts, a touch of grapefruit and a pinching bitterness on the finish, mellowing to a biscuity dryness. An exceptional beer.

Black color with nice creamy head, lacing glass. Lovely aroma, very hoppy. Grapefruits, pines, resins, tropical fruits, blackcurrant - smooth chocolate, roasted malts in background. Taste is bitter. Velvet and oily texture. Notes of grapefruits, pines, resins, citrus, grass. Delicate hints of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts in the background. Excellent, very drinkable and tasty beer. With eyes closed, it tastes like a pale version of the IPA.

Aromatyczne chmielne piwo. Lekko tostowe i opiekane. W smaku przyjemnie goryczkowe. Ale nie jest ciezkie w piciu. Pieknie wyglada. tzn jest czarne, se spora piana ale srednio trwala. Metnosc spora bo nic przez swiatlo w szklanicy nie przeswitywalo. Polecam amatorom ciemnych IPA

Cask. Dark berries and citrus fruits in the nose and taste. A little bit of coffee, toffee, toast, nuts. Like a scaled down version of their Imperial Black.

Fantastic nose on this one - balanced, hoppy, dark malts, gentle treacle mixed with fresh mango. Extra appearance point for delivering a head that looks like maple ice cream. The flavour delivers on the promise of the nose - stonkingly good. Dark stout-like characters from the toasted malt (licorice, cocoa, aniseed, molasses) threaded with fresh hop notes (grapefruit, lychee, orange peel) in superb harmony. Finish is bitter and dry and achingly moreish. What a corker. I’ll look for more from this brewer, and particularly will have to get my hands on the big brother stablemate Imperial Black.

Bottle conditioned. Black beer with small head and good lacing. Aroma is grapefruit and maybe a touch of chocolate. The taste is excellent, chocolate, hops, some grapefruit in the finish and a little sweetness along the way. The palate is very smooth and full bodied. The only thing that lets this down is the lack of a decent head and maybe it could be a bit bigger in the ABV range.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large beige head, which lasts very well and leaves good lacing. Kiwifruit, grapefruit and lemongrass hops mix with milk chocolate, black coffee and liquorice to create the aroma. Potent lemongrass, kiwifruit and melon hops up front give way to smooth milk chocolate and mild coffee in the mid-palate. Liquorice comes in at the finish, and there is a lemongrass hops aftertaste. This is a superbly balanced and extremely enjoyable black IPA.
