COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain. Also available bottle conditioned.
A Black IPA, late mash additions provide the colour without the harsher, roasted flavours of the dark malts. The beer has a blackcurrant aroma and flavours of liquorice and pithy grapefruit.
Brings together the amazing hop varieties of Columbus, Cluster and Southern Cross.

Bottle at home from Beer Ritz, Leeds, kindly fetched over by Matt. Poured a deep dark brown colour with a reserved beige head. Some decent hoppage present in the nose alongside notes of berry fruit and roasted malt. The flavour continued on in a similar vein and struck a tidy balance between roastiness and citrus/grapefruit hop bitterness. A really drinkable and tasty example of the style.

A very murky dark brown with beige head. Dark hoppy, earthy, resin, fresher classic hop tones. Good full bitterness, quite American. Foamy, lively palate. Well brewed, tasty IPA. Lots of flavour for the abv. One of the first that make sense in this style, for me. (50cl bottle, reasonably priced)

BCA, Coppers, Ncl. Love the way this pours, jet black, with a fine thick foaming head, that is pale tan, but with a clean white ring round the edge. Blackcurrant and grapefruit battle it out in the aroma stakes, there’s a rich biscuity bitter palate, with a smooth finish and licquorice in the aftertaste. Weaker than some black IPAs, but one of the best ones around.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Black pour with a beige head. Blackcurrant, blackberry and apricot aroma. Licorice and blackcurrant flavour. Malty, bitter-sweet finish. Very interesting.

Mild aroma of citrus fruits and malts, pours black with a large head that stays. Medium body with lots of flavour, malts, fruits and lots of bitterness, perhaps a little too bitter, but still very good

Bottle from Great Grog. Big hoppy pine aroma. Almost black colour, not much head. Big toasty hop flavour. Long lasting sweet hoppy aftertaste. A big black IPA.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2012 Bottle @ home. Aroma is fruity and floral sweet hops, candy like sweetness of malt. Flavour is strong hops, mild bitterness, subtle but fitting roast.

Huge & stable beige to greige head, dense and even, over brownish-tinted, opaque dark beer, lively carbonated. Very aromatic USA-hops nose, fruity. Bit of frying oil aroma through all the exotic fruit from the hops; and some roasted notes already. Bitter, hoppy, resiny, dry, and some roasted coffee and melanoidin notes. Only short, citric fruitiness, as chocolate-and-orange. Finish is very raw-bitter, quinine-like. Medium bodied at least, and very carbonated feel. Good, if a bit raw black IPA. Txs, my friend!

(Bottle) THe most coherent Black IPA ive drunk . This take on the style feels slicker and more assured than the typical 50/50 of Stout and IPA ive had today . resiny hop nose..dark fruit =vibrant. On the palate roasted and zesty -lots of hops and lots of dark malt flavor...An excellent showcase of the style because the hopiness shines through the darkness of the style optimistically .
