Gravity at Cambridge Beer Festival 2013. Deep black with brown tint, not too much of a head. Intense mouth puckering upfront hit, fruity and also salty, it actually does have blackcurrant and licorice as the blurb says, almost like those old blackcurrant and licorice sweets! Really nice. Finish is long and bitter, citric, if anything like grapefruit. I sometimes find Black IPAs a bit artificial and forced, struggling to meld flavours together, but this is superb.

Bottle @ Ynwa , Kolding. Pours nearly black. Small White head. Roast, cocoa, liquorice and grapefruit. Smooth and dry.

Draught at Mikkeller & Friends. Unclear brown with a small creamy beige head. Very fresh hoppy nose with great accents of grapefruit, licorice and pine.. Taste basically follows the nose with some roasty sweetness and lots of hoppy notes, leaving a rather bitter finish. Much flavor for the abv.

Draught at Mikkeller&Friends. Black - offwhite head. Ok bitterness. Coffee. Fruity. Bitter malty. Carcoal. Nice dryness. Cocoa. Let sure sokker. Ok bitter hoppy.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a fairly large foamy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, a light-to-medium piney hop accent and some bready notes. Flavour is very dry, with dry bready toasted malts, piney hops, and a little wood. No where near as flavourful as the Imperial Black IPA -- this tastes like a baby version. Well-balanced with a very dry palate. Good stuff, but leaves something to be desired.

500 mL bottle from Westholme Stores in Goring. Very dark brown with a good bubbly head. Crystal malt licorice aroma - very attractive. Licorice, crystal malt, a hint of chocolate, a touch of pine needle. Its a nice blend. Smooth and very drinkable.

Bottled. Black colour with a beige head with good duration. Aroma is roasty, light caramel and coffee. Flavor is medium to strong bittery, with chocolate, resins and coffee notes. The final is strong bittery with a good duration and a medium astringency on palate.

15/04/2013 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Nera, abbastanza densa, schiuma beige leggera e non molto persistente. Naso armonioso, tostato che si sposa bene con il luppolo, lieve caffettoso, un po’ di cioccolato, note fruttate, agrumate e pinose. In bocca è altrettanto equilibrata, con corpo medio-leggero, buona beva, discreta secchezza e amaro persistente. Non male come black IPA.

Pours hazy dark red-brown color with a medium head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, hops, grass, some caramel and dark fruits. Flavor of roasted malts, mild caramel, some citrus fruits and some goose berry and vegetable notes. Not at its prime anymore.
