UPDATED: JUN 7, 2014 Bottles from The Euston Tap & mr_h. Almost black colour, not much head. Big pine hop aroma. Syrupy hop flavour, hoppy aftertaste. Like this much better than before. My palate has changed.

My favorite beer of the few I tried from Buxton. Black pour with medium tan head. Aromas of resinous hops, light roast, and chalk, Taste is citrus fuely hops, pine resin, sweet malts, and some grain spice. Finished excellent with a full assortment of flavors left behind. Very long finish.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s Bush opening night. I’m not sure this is the beer I asked for but here goes. Aroma is roast and light tart earthy mushroom. Opaque black pour with a persistent light tan head. Flavour is mineral, smooth roast coffee and earthy hop. Light sour raspberry in the finish. Body is a touch light.

BBF 12 smells like a weak IPA, taste folows black IPA... doesnt taste any diffrent to me than an IPA , eyes closed... and the fact this is very mediocer... nah, would rather drink something else than ... but this aint bad at all , there’s just way better out there

Tap at Pelt Trader. Pours a very murky dark brown with a medium creamy beige head that doesn’t even dissipate. Nose shows loads of piney hops and tropical fruits with heavy grapefruit. Some would say it’s over the top hoppy but I enjoy it. Some heavy liquorice in the taste with grassy hops and a very smokey bacon driven note. Some orange comes through. The smoked malts are a little overwhelming for my liking. Solid stuff

On bottle at Øltorget, Mathallen Oslo. Pitch black color, good offwhite foam / slightly brownish. Immediately hoppy, some roasted aromas, coffee, licorice: medium high aroma intensity. Medium: full body & high complexity . Solid bitterness - ok balance. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On cask at The York Tap. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thick light tan head. A beautiful upfront hop aroma of pine and grapefruit before light chocolate and roasty malt. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is quite present and also quite bitter with a long roasty malt, dark chocolate, pine and grapefruit linger. Stunning!

On tap at the BeerTemple. Dark black pour with lacy tan head. Aroma is chocolaty, roasty, nice piney hop, light licorice. Taste is bitter, roasty and piney, lingering dark chocolate flavor. Palate is medium bodied with light-med carbonation. Nice.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 Toffee orange and Terry’s chocolate orange up front on this impenetrable dark ruby-brown beer. Good sized fluffy beige head forms. Gentle carbonation and a world of flavour. Up front we get a hint of freshly ground coffee, followed swiftly by pine resin and sweet toffee malt. Then the citrus comes along to freshen the palate and finishes with a hint of earthy malt. Some chocolate, lots of hop bitterness. Its particularly drinkable for its ABV and bests the original. I’m glad I have 500ml as 330ml wouldn’t be enough. Lovely. This is up there with Axe-edge and SPA as my top Buxton brews. Edited 2/8/12 score revised up to 4.8 from 4.6 keg at barley mow, bristol
Unable to find fault, spot on tropical aroma, nary a hint of black malt, just full on fruit punch, no sign of the booze either, perfect carbonation and palate, fab 5/5 Edited 8/5/13 score up from 4.8 to 5
