Very dark brown color with light brown head. Very hoppy nose with tons of citrus notes under pinned by roasted malts. Medium full body, tons of cotton candy, citrus notes with excellent roasted malt character. Sharp malt and hop character. Lingering roasted malt finish. Excellent example of the style, but doesn’t make top three for me.

On bottle at Øltorget, Mathallen Oslo. Pitch black color, good offwhite foam / slightly brownish. Immediately hoppy, some roasted aromas, coffee, licorice: medium high aroma intensity. Medium: full body & high complexity . Solid bitterness - ok balance. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Aroma plum, chocolate. Light roast. Moderate herbal grassy hops. Dark brown colour. Taste is very nicely balanced, with bold amount of chocolate and roast complementing the grassy herbal hoppiness. Nicely balanced. Very good.

33cl bottle from Õllepood Nr.1 Gambrinus, Tartu. Pours pretty much black with a tan head. Fresh hoppy aroma with pine, fruits, citrus and some dark and roasty notes in the background. Quite dominated by the hops, but well balanced and refreshing. Moderate sweet with delicous hoppy flavours and a quite bitter and citrusy finish. The black aromas seems to stay in the background and it’s more like a regular IPA, but certainly a nice one.

(Buxton Imperial Black) Bottle 330 ml, shared with vipinvelp, ABV 7.5% Black coloured body, light beige head, tall but a bit thin, with good retention though, leaving medium lacing on the glass. Aroma of grass, hops, citrus, not so much roasted character. Nice taste, grass, light hops, wild plantation, light chocolate, roasted malts now, liquorice. Medium body, good carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Pours black, with half an inch of froth. Smells excellent: juicy resin hops. Doesn’t taste quite as hoppy as it smells, due to the earthy, charcoal notes and mouthfeel. It is hoppy though, and the finish is bitter and rather dry, with a nib of licorice. Really very good - coats the throat and is a real mouthful of flavours.

Cask @ bbf. Aroma is sweaty english hops, some roast and liquorice. Flavour is quite bitter of english hops, some herbal notes, long lingering roasty bitterness in the finish.
