500 ml bottle. Black Door, Helsinki, Finland. Dark brown almost black colour with small tan head. Absolutely delicious aroma with piney and fruity hops, moderate bitterness, mild roasted malt, liquorice and dryness. Flavour is more roasted malt, dry liquorice, sweet sugary notes, some balancing hops, mild bitterness and anise. Aroma is more IPA and flavour more Stout/Porter. Yummy! Very very tasty. More of this please! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at Beer Temple. Dark brown unclear pour with a tiny tan head. Aroma dominate by grassy hops and nettles. Flavour as a foreground caramel sweetness and light malt, with massive grass coming through in the background bitterness. Medium bodies and low carbonation. Intense beer!

Cask, Derby Winter Fest 2012.  Very dark brown with a beige foam. Aromas are spicy with fruity, nutty dark chocolate and peppery grapefruit. Light coffee with melon and burnt toast. Flavours are bittersweet grapefruit with dark chocolate and marzipan. Spicy with vinous, red wine fruitiness. Pithy and dry to finish. Good stuff.

2014-07-04. Black body nice tan head and lace. 3+ Aroma is a melange of green hops dark malt and lightly roasty malt. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, the hops and lightly roasty dark malts work well together and find a good balance. Relatively rich overall, the alcohol is restrained. Smooth average plus bodied palate, modest carbonation. Very nice stuff. Bottle from Alesela, Glasgow.

Cask, handpump at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London 6th Jan 2012 Black in colour with a filmy head. This is an ’In yer face’ beer with loads of chocolate and citrus zapping around. Good thrusting bitterness with a nice drying finish, citrus showing well mainly grapefruit, drinks far too easily for the abv, Lovely, not quite as lovely as the ’Wild Boar’ but still a corking beer. Deep pitch black pour with a thick moussey brown head. The aroma is amazing - orange peel, tangerine and some slightly tropical notes. A very subtle bit of cocoa and a touch of moderate malt character through the middle. Medium bodied but the hops in here are very expressive. Juicy and citrusy with a fantastic balance of malt and hops. Has a little bit of floral character as well. It’s lovely.

My Bottom Line:
This fruity, resinous and chocolatey Black IPA pleases from aroma to finish, lending plenty of complexity and flavor.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A stable sheet of foam decorates the brown-edged black.
-Carbonation might be a bit zealous.
-Hop profile is more coniferous than citrusy.
-Bitterness is a blend of hop resins and malt roastiness.
-Drinkability is pretty high for the style.

Bottle. Merci, Ian!

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Pours black with a big, bubbly tan head. Aromas of pine, resin and roast. Taste has more chocolate notes, big hop bitterness. Bit fizzy, but very nice.
